I like the height of the SG Gaiters over the Sitka Thunderhead. I think the Thunderhead is a great option for archery because the face fabric is brushed.
Boots — Crispi Wyoming/Idaho II, I like to pair them with Wiggy’s lamlite socks if it gets below 20 or so. The boot breathes well.
Socks—Darn tough, thicker weight for summer, thinner weight for winter when paired with lamlite
Gaiters—Stone Glacier
Base layers - Stone Glacier wool boxers...
Under 30 degrees, I like the Patagonia Nano Air. But the Arcteryx Proton FL is really proving to be next-level.
Above 30 degrees, I like the Sitka heavyweight or the 97 Peloton. I do add a windproof vest often in these scenarios.
I think the fit on the Sitka Heavyweight is about perfect. I...
Not trying to bag on Peax, but ever since that guy on the cheap gear that works thread showed that they were selling the same headlamp for $80 that you could get for $25, just with their logo on it, I started to look at their products differently.
Stone Glacier on the other hand, I have those...
Nomad barrier isn’t the noisiest material, but it does make some noise. Very similar to the jet stream. The Pnuma Selkirk looks like it would be the ticket for late season archery. Quiet, heavier, waterproof and windproof. Another late season option to look at for archer is the Vellus series...
Well, I’ve been hunting for a softshell for a while and have a lot of them (plan on selling a few of them):
Black Label DeHaviland from Stone Glacier
Filson Reliance
Sitka Jetstream
Sitka Timberline
Kryptek Bora Vest
Recently purchased, but don’t have:
Pnuma Selkirk
Nomad Barrier
The SG...
You can get the Kelvin Active Hoody (Shacket/ Belichick ) very discounted right now. It has the alpha direct insulation. I think its a great option for being on the move and for layering. I also like the arcteryx Proton FL. That’s a full jacket w/hood and has a quiet/breathable outerlayer...
I don’t think you can beat down. It’s just the applications you use it in that need to be thought out. You aren’t going to be busting brush with it as an outerlayer and you aren’t going to be relying fully on it for a backcountry trip in moist/damp/humid weather. But for everything else, it’s...
Grumman Vest if packed weight is a factor. Weights and packs down to very little, lots of warmth for little weight. Otherwise, I agree with those suggesting non-hunting brands. Lots of options for down. For non-down, it gets tricky. I prefer the nano air light from patagonia (discontinued).
For versatility—I think the peloton 240 in either a vest or jacket is always in my pack. The wind shirt ( I use the Alpine Start) is with me on nonhunting, but they just aren’t that quiet. I can do a lot with a Peloton 240 combined with some layering. I always have a puffy with for sitting...
I have a lot of their stuff.
I think their best clothing product line is their puffy pants and vest (Grumman). I think they have the best merino wool of the hunting brands. The helio is a fantastic grid fleece option.
This is the jacket:

Used for some big game rifle hunts, only two outings. It’s lightweight, breathable, and orange.
