I still don’t understand why they avoid putting a zip neck in the lightweight pieces. I’d really like to see the hoody for the 120 LT add that. That Merino 145 hoody should be the design of all the lightest weight options. First Lite does the same thing…no quarter zip hoody on the lightest...
I watch ebay a lot, and found a deal on those Arcteryx pants. You can get the Sitka Stormfront pant deeply discounted for that range. That’s top-level goretex like Arcteryx.
I couldn’t help myself. I wanted a lightweight pair of merino zip/offs. I have their 125 Merino shirt, so I’ll compare it to that. I typically need a higher % of merino to keep the stink down, so I’m curious to see if this performs differently than the 125/145 they have (which has been great...
The Ferrosi is a good early season pant. Very light. It’s not as durable as the Zion, though. The price is great on them; I love wearing them in the summer.
I train with my Kifaru frame weekly, if not more often. I think people pay big money for fitness equipment and that’s how I justify my gear. It keeps me in shape, it’s great for my health.
Fjallraven Stubben. Awesome. I just hang platforms and then sit on this pack when I get up into the stands I have on my property. It carries weight well. There’s some additional pockets that attach to the sides and allow to carry a bow or gun.
Kutanas are durable. More durable than the ascent. If the fit works for you, its a long-lasting early season pant. I agree on the comment that they are skinnier fitting in the thigh.
Outdoor Vitals makes a pant that is the same fabric as the Kutanas. I haven’t tried it, but the fit could...
I’ve got the Felix 6 Sapphire. It’s awesome. I rarely take it off and after a year it still looks brand new. I didn’t like how large the 6X was, the 6 is the sweet spot for me. Has every feature, and you can add a lot of sensors if you want to create more data fields (I like the temp...
I have just assembled a pretty decent Kryptek Altitude system. The fabrics are as advertised. I think the Bora material is better than Sitka’s jetstream…it’s lighter and just as bombproof, and seems waterproof to me. The tora pants have vents and a really nice amount of features for a lighter...
I agree on the SG Merino. It’s been great. I wish they did zip-off’s, but the performance of it has far exceeded what First Lite’s lightweight aero wool is capable of.
I’ve come full circle on cotton…I think the blend Fjallraven uses is an awesome combination to achieve breathability with the ability to waterproof areas that need it. Polyester has only one advantage - drying time. Every other aspect, it’s inferior to both cotton and nylon.
For durability...
Outdoor Vitals has a pant that is $125 that I think is basically the Kutana in a slightly different cut. They seem to source their fabric with Toray and the description of the pant fabric (stretch woven nylon with no elastane/spandex) is the same as the Kutana description. They also have hip...
These are all different types.
Brooks is a basic down - will compress well but not do well if exposed to elements
Aerolite is light and is synthetic. Will compress well, will handle the elements the best, but might not be as warm as down.
Uncomaghre is heavier synthetic—won’t compress well...
I have a pair of shorts with the new material. It’s definitely a downgrade—shiny, thin. They also have a weird redesign of the button (never had issues with the other button, so don’t know why that changed).
I agree on the Ferrosi. Really doesn’t have much for pockets, but the material is excellent for lightweight. Otherwise, I’d be trying to find a pair of discounted Kuiu Kutanas. The new Prana Stretch material isn’t what it used to be.
I’ve worn these a ton. I’ll agree that getting the boot hook to stay tight was been difficult, but I never experienced the snow balling up—and I hiked in them a decent amount this winter. Still, the easiest gaiter to put on and adjust fit—and its not close. I’ve tried quite a few of them...
