I think the Peloton 200 is one of Kuiu’s better pieces. The Pro Merino is not warmer and the merino % is very low; so the the stink reduction depends on the person wearing it.
I don’t have the ambient hoody. I just think the Kelvin Active Hoody was very underrated and the ambient hoody is lacking some things they should have kept from the Active Hoody. I have a proton FL jacket if I want sleeves on an active insulation piece.
I think I like the Shacket version better…it has the pocket as well. My lower arms never get that cold on the move, when sitting, I’d put something with windstopper on over the top.
I have an extra Bora Jacket because I bought a lot of Altitude off a guy and he wouldn’t separate. Jacket is in great shape, basically new. I love the jacket; it’s lighter than a Sitka Jetstream, blocks wind and is basically waterproof (no seem tape). The fit is terrific on me (5’11’’...
There’s cheaper REI brand ones that you can get for that. If you have a higher budget, I think the Cirque Jacket from Stone Glacier is the one that will be the most versatile for that weather…heavier than the kenai, has pit zips, synthetic, and a little DWR. I’d only go Grumman if it was much...
I have their vapor wool t-shirts. They aren’t a high % of wool, but they are a great cut and my favorite casual t-shirt. Comfortable year round, have enough wool to get the benefits of the property, but not enough that would work for me on a serious backcountry or hunting trip.
The traverse feels like the 90% Sitka line to some extent. You’ve got that for most of the season, and then throw on the wind proof / water proof layers as needed. I think the Traverse and thunderhead is a good pairing for a whitetail guy who wants to take some gear out West (sub alpine looks...
I hiked in the LT 120 T-shirt today in pretty humid weather with an 80lb pack, got the sweat going big. It dries much faster than my wick t shirt and 125 kuiu t shirt. Very impressive. It’s just as soft, a nice comfortable fit for a medium (i’m 5’11, 175lbs).
updated: biked for a few hours...
I am skeptical of the move to these ”recycled” fabrics. Prana certainly took a step back with their revamp and focus on this. I think the Traverse Cold Weather Hoody is great the way it is.
Axis has actual waterproofing on it. Jetstream is a windstopper layer that is not waterproof. It’s important to note that the “solids” Jetstream is different than the camo version—missing a couple arm pockets, has a louder face fabric that is more durable. I think the Axis is as close to an...
You are looking for a unicorn. And you’ll spend more than its worth to trying to find it. All gloves fail. It’s best to have options and multiple pairs. I like a lightweight merino liner, heavier merino fingerless, mechanix gloves, and a glassing down mitt. If I knew it was going to be wet...
