Noise is a draw. I believe in general the thinner the denier the less noise, but these two are really close. Scientifically the edge probably goes to the Grumman, but it would be imperceptible to our ears. I will say this Electron is stupid warm. You want this one if you want to be very...
OP I would say the equinox which is essentially a traverse cold weather hoody in Elevated 2 camo has a similar function as the jetstream. The equinox is warmer but the jetstream is windproof. I would say you might be able to layer the jetstream over the equinox or traverse but you might have...
Unfortunately you really need to have a Mid-season and late-season sets in the North. I have Stratus and Fanatic. Both are necessary. I’m not getting the stratus into the teens even with the celsius and a fanatic vest on.
I’ve worn my fanatic in a steady low 30s just above freezing sleet and light rain for 6 hours and never got wet. I wouldn’t wear it in a downpour but no issues with light rain or mists.
I usually get the hood on everything. I tend to have both hooded and non hoody versions of my next to skin baselayer. It doesn’t bother me to layer up hoods. For stationary whitetail stand hunting I don’t like hoods on the base or outer layer but will wear a midlayer grid fleece hoody. I...
All mentioned are solid choices along with eh Sitka Heavyweight hoody.
I have the FL Klamath, Sitka Fanatic, had a newer SG helio hoody, and have the Patagonia R1 tech face. The SG helio did fit well, but the FL and Sitka both have a better stretch, loft, and hand feel to me. SG Helio and...
My other thought has been to wear a down vest over/under the kenai thinking that won't be as loud as a down jacket. If you are thinking about drawing a bow say over a wallow or something when you want to stay warm and be stealthy. I haven't tried it out yet though.
The traverse fits a little loose IME. I wear XL in all Sitka tops and its a bit loose in the trunk. The jet stream is slightly lighter but 100% windproof. The Traverse is warmer IMO. I commonly wear the traverse as my outer layer ice fishing and all kinds of other winter stuff. It's outer...
I am considering wearing the kenai with a quiet wind stopper vest like the jetstream to push the kenai ultra into colder conditions but keep the quiet.
If you could deal with the weight and packability, the Sitka Traverse Cold Weather hoody is really warm for what it is and very quiet.
They are quality...I am a 43" chest 6' 190 and I went with the XL...fits great all around...a little loose for layering, but I think the Large would be too small. Euro sizing is just a hair on the tight side vs US sizing. Go by Rab's size chart.
Embellishment since I was excited...maybe yes! Exaggeration? No!...the thorns on these rose thickets, briars, and the buckthorn brush are no joke here in my neck of the woods. They chew through most other lightweight rain shells.
I wanted to post my experience today, as I went on a shed/buck bed hunt in snow, ice and thick brush. This was my first real field test of the kutana storm shell pants. I had only previously worn them hiking in rain. Today I walked through a frozen tamarack swamp, busting through the ice at...
Rab Electron is best I’ve tried so far
7.1 oz Treated 800 fill down, weighs 17 oz is super warm, has a great hood design, large pockets, waist cinch, durable and excellent fit and finish.
I’m going to stick with the Rab
If/When they come out with the Grumman vest I’ll probably pick one up to combo up with a synthetic puffy like the Unc or Kenai ultra.
