While it may not rain much on a September Colorado trip, having a good set of rain gear is handy for all kinds of purposes besides the trip. A pair of Kuiu rain pants weighs about the same as a pair of gaiters, can keep you warmer, and is nice in wet grass and snow.
I hunt from teens up to about 50 in the Solitude. I have to wear a baselayer, furnace and Klamath underneath to get me down to the teens though. On a day where its like 50 you just use the side zips on the bibs and pack the jacket in.
I ended up grabbing an argali carbon...everyone I’ve talked to from Argali has been great. They were very quick to return emails and answer questions. I even got a thank you email from Brad, plus it showed up across country with free shipping in 3 business days. Very happy with Argali. So...
I did go check out the saddle mountain skinner with the s90v as well as the steep country today. I actually preferred the steep country in hand. They were display knives out of their sheaths. I was surprised that the s90v blade had little chips out of the blade edge on the belly. I’m...
This is primarily going to be a processing/kill kit knife. I’d be looking at another knife for general camp chores, prying, batoning firewood etc. I imagine all 3 steels are strong enough to hold up to skinning/caping and quartering. I used to use replaceable blade knife, still do really, but...
Care to comment on the hand feel of the altitude in use? I was leaning argali just because of the g10 sideplates thinking it would be more comfortable in the hand.
Thanks for the suggestions
I think the altitude looks like a nice ultralight pack knife...not sure about the skeletonized handle vs say the argali carbon or a more traditional handle in the saddle mountain skinner.
I’m in the market for a new fixed blade. I have it narrowed down to an Argali Carbon or Serac, a Benchmade Saddle Mountain Skinner or Steep Country. What say you?
I agree OP the Montbell is a tough puffy to beat. The advantage of the Rab is the treated down. Though whether that truly works or helps who knows ? The Rab in large has 7oz and the XL I believe 7.3oz. Both as good as you can find right now.
I have both the Uncompaghre 2.0 jacket and the 1.0 vest. I wear the vest occasionally on chilly early season evenings in the stand but I wouldn’t wear the jacket for bow hunting from a treestand. Not quiet enough for me. The Catalyst with layers or the Solitude is the right choice IME
They are fairly slim fit. I’m 6’ 190# and large fit well. The waist is really comfortable and I can layer under fine. If you want to layer over puffy pants you’ll want to size up. My big issue is I have a 31” inseam and they make my size only in 34” inseam so I do get some extra fabric on...
I’ve had both the 1p and 2p and kept the 2p. Not much weight or pack size penalty for a ton of room in the inner nest. These things pack up really small and fit great in a pack. I’m pleased with mine. Great quality, easy set up, etc. I would love if they turned the 1p into a 1.5p as would be...
I have the Sea to Summit Comfort Lite Insulated rectangular and can’t imagine a more comfortable sleeping pad. It has a decent r value and is quiet compared to the thermarest pads with the space blanket foil insides.
I am pleased with the durability. So far the kutana have been really tough in the thorn filled area I live in. I haven’t had them in extended rain conditions yet to test wet out and breathability in super wet conditions. I have worn them hiking in wet snow and they’ve been great. I wear them...
I have these and have the same issue as you. I am a 31" inseam and they somehow thought the average inseam should be 34" instead of 32. They do bunch a bit at the bottom and the knee. With that said I haven't noticed it be a real hinderance to anything just have the excess fabric. I also...
