What's a good Long range Muzzleloader Bullet for elk?
Thanks. I am going to give them a try. We have shot a handful of moose with various bullets but haven't been impressed with one yet. The Barnes expand too much and don't get good penetration, Hornady's blow apart, the Federal one's (Lead and Copper) seem to be the best but slowly work there...- MBN

Did you recover the bullet? if so how did it hold up? I haven't been able to find a bullet that stays together, accurate and gets very good penetration on moose.- MBN

243 for Bear????
No, I do not think it is the best bear rifle and am not sure if there is such a thing. The question asked was if it was a poor choice which I don't think it is. Ethically I don't have a problem with it. Black bears are not hard to kill and and thinner skinned than a deer. -

My kids have shot black bears, moose, caribou, deer and antelope with a .243 all without issue. I might have to name it the Crescent Wrench now. They can handle the recoil and it seems to be plenty for a black bear. -
AK Species rules confusion...
If there is a left over Res tag it is available for Res only If there is a left over Non Res tag it is available for Nons only at least how I understand it at least. There have been proposals to change this- MBN

If you want to hunt with a Non Res relative on Kodiak for bear they would apply for the resident tag/tags for the area, not saying it seems right but it is all detailed in the drawing supplement. A different example is DS140 is a sheep tag that is Res only and DS240 is the Non Res tag both for...- MBN

Strange tooth
Anyone ever see this configuration of teeth on a sheep? When I got it sealed the biologist said he had seen it a few times. The tooth had worn the lower teeth away and made a hole into the bottom jaw. -

Antler Darkening (opinions wanted)
From what I know it is safe when mixed with water but I will definitely make sure to be careful with it!! Sounds like quite the rodeo!! It really does good on caribou that were in velvet though. Seems to be a lot easier and turns out better than stain. Might have to put it in the go bag for...- MBN
