I'm with all the folks that are talking about shooting the first deer that you can kill cleanly and gets your ticker going. there's only been a few over the years, but nothing haunts me more than thinking about the animals I've wounded and not found.
My brother has some connections to folks that own land in GMU 38 in New Mexico, from what I understand it's pretty close to the Cibola between Willard and Corona. Did a little digging and didn't come up with much info about it regarding what's around as far as deer/elk/antelope/sasquatch...
The 3 trip thing was a guess. Was so tired I thought "3 lighter trips would work... yeah lighter". But in the end couldn't even BS myself into it.
Originally from Pulaski, WI. Live toward Fond du Lac now. Actually ran into a fella that was from Manitowoc (if I remember correct) on my way...
Well... been thinking about throwing up a quick report on my first ever solo back pack hunt so here goes. First thing I need to do is publicly thank idahohikker (on this forum). He is a stand up guy that helped me get pointed in the right direction. A little background info. In my early...
2017 F250 with the powerstroke. Pic is from a wolf hunt in Ontario last February. Truck sat from before sun up until this time in the evening. maybe some have cold weather issues, but mine doesn't. Put a little extra additive in for fill ups when it's this cold, but no issues and it pulls...
Everyone seems to be spelling out exactly what I'm doing in a couple weeks. I'm doing a first solo out of state mule deer hunt in a couple weeks. Have been a mad man at home getting chores/projects done, have a very laid out plan of where I'm planning on being, and got the InReach. All that...
When I had it done in '06 my prescription hadn't changed in the previous 12 years. My Dr's opinion was that because of that there was a good chance I wouldn't need glasses again, except for readers (which pretty much we'll all need some day). He didn't make any guarantees though so time will tell.
Be WAY easier to give an accurate estimate if you'd PM some GPS coordinates 🙂. Joking aside, I'm a mule deer newbie so I have no idea but he looks pretty impressive to me.
Have a Kuiu Pro 6000 ordered but have no idea when it'll show up. Found a bladder/tube/mouthpiece for a Back Country Access Throttle (snowmobile pack) in the basement that I forgot I had. Looked for pics and couldn't find any that show how bladders are set or hung in the Kuiu pack. Can someone...
That plot was planted this past May, so I haven't done anything yet. The other established ones have never been mowed. Biggest one is only about 1/2 acre and the deer never let it get taller than mid shin.
The seed is a bit spendy but I've had really good luck with roundup ready alfalfa on my smaller plots the deer use before they head to the bigger ag fields. Usually lasts about 4 years if I take care of it. Also do turnip heavy blends because the deer get after them the time of year when they...
A lot of this info is kind of what my thought process was. Plan was to make it in down horse/foot path far enough to hopefully avoid "traffic" as much as possible. Have a camp site picked out, then an alternate about a mile away if necessary. This trip for me has 2 goals, in this order: 1...
Did a search and I didn't see much. Heading to Idaho from WI for my first unguided/backpack mule deer hunt. Understand that every situation has variables and that there are obvious things that anyone with half a brain should do (like helping if you come across an injured hunter, clean up...
