What was your very first deer rifle?
Mine was a mossberg 500 410ga with a smooth bore barrel and iron sights. It’s a great grouse gun but not a deer killer. 2 minute of deer isn’t really good for me.
My very first rifle was handed down to me from my grandfather, which was a Win 94 in 30WCF...
It my rifles the CX hasn’t shot well. But I have let testing them after cleaning the barrel back to bare metal.
I use Barnes for everything. Have to cleaned your barrel well?
First off I have no experience with the 220 or the ammo I’m going to suggest. I quit slug hunting as soon as I could. But
I’d be giving the Barnes vortx expanders and for scope I’d go with a 2-7x30something from Burris, Leopold or vortex.
I pick the Burris fullfield E1 2-7x35 (discontinued) if...
If this rifle is intended to be mainly a deer rifle I’d go 7mm08. It’s a fantastic cartridge on whitetail.
It would be my one deer gun forever cartridge if I ever had to.
I just want the standard lites blued and Ss to be threaded. Is that too much to ask? I’m not paying many hundreds extra moneys for textured stocks because they are threaded.
The lites work for me I just want to suppress them.
I’d be using the TTSX and drive as fast as accurately possible. For penetration and expansion purposes.
I’d also look at the 101gr LRX. It’ll have a lower min velocity for expansion then the TTSX.
I’ve been hunting large oak forests for a majority of my deer hunting career. This year I have the opportunity to hunt close to home during the week and I’m looking to make the most of my season.
The trees in the area consist of the following
Aspen/poplar
Birch
Maple - mostly red
Balsam fir
Pine - Red, White and Jack
Spruce - White and Black
Tamarack
Ash - green and black
No oaks or beech
It’s a small sample size but a large portion of the woods up here look like the picture below.
Morning all,
Hunting in northeastern MN public land and the land consists of aspen regeneration, pine stands, clear cuts and swamps (cattail, spruce/tamarack, or Alder/willow). Mostly thick cover.
There is no AG or acorns. I’m struggling to figure out what they are eating and use that to...
