I have an old xlite that has a loud crinkle sound. I sleep pretty heavily and it is enough for me to notice. My buddy sleeping 15 feet away even mentioned the noise one trip. Not sure if they changed the design but it was enough to send me in other directions.
I have had good luck with tenacious tape. Less well on stretchy th8ngs. It last longer on the inside of the garment.
Had one big rip in a jacket that I hand sewed and seem sealed. It was ugly but worked fine.
You should be gtg with the vario speed. Used one for 3 years now. Very happy.
Pro tip: If you hunt any kind of platform, figure out a way to keep your safety rope behind you. A rubber band, a bite tucked into the harness, etc. it helps keep it out of the way for shooting.
A Sitka version of the OR ferrosi - thin, stretchy, high breathable, non insulated, handle a little wind and light rain - jacket would be a big win IMO. If they want to do some breathable panels under the arms, great. The back thing is less than ideal once you take off your pack.
Hmmm. Fair point. I guess I had kept it stock all these years thinking it would be worth something to a collector some day.
Dang. I may just have to hang on to it.
I have a 2003 Harley fat boy. The 100 year anniversary edition with all the special badges and cool paint. It is bone stock (all original apart from maintenance items and LED bulbs). I bought it with ~110 miles and add 2k of easy summer cruising. Garage kept. Condition is 95-98%.
I want...
To each their own. Not on it but have plenty of friends that are. I am on the wrong side of 50 and can’t say I would rule it out. Some guys basically up the dose to get more results. Pretty clear who is over dosing. They have that red, muscular, veiny, penis-in-street clothes look to...
I wonder how the feedback was on the ventilation panels. I really liked mine the first few outings and it really shined on a 25 mile ruck march challenge earlier in the year with low temps and a bit of mist. It seemed like that piece was designed for that day.
Flash forward a couple more...
Forgot to mention that I have and like an axis hybrid jacket from kuiu. I still like my jetstream for general use. The axis is a Great piece for colder weather. Doesn’t breathe as well but very warm and durable. Very good for wet and snow up to an outright downpour.
Wait for a sale...
Low 20s is a lot to ask from a soft shell, unless you are moving a lot.
am a Sitka guy mainly. My jet stream is still my go to. I am also a big fan of the traverse jacket. It is less weatherproof but breathes well and has a fleece lining.
I would take a look at some of these active...
Axil for in ear. Walker for muffs.
FWIW I have been running a pair of axils for 2 years now. 10-20 hunting days plus a few shooting matches. They work fine. Battery life is good. Fairly comfortable but not quite “all day” comfort. They can feel weird with sunglasses. Have not...
A buddy at my gun club - single, no kids - has a decent collection of guns. He is a talented gunsmith, USPSA shooter and hunter. He is going to have a raffle and the proceeds will go to the club.
FWIW I have used a solitude for a few years now. I sized up so I can layer. I find it lacking warmth on our coldest days in the northeast when it gets to the teens or lower. It’s great for me 20-40*. I think the pockets on both jacket and bib are pretty slick.
Doubt I would upgrade until...
I size up. Top and bottom.
More often than not rain gear is going on over the other stuff - jackets, puffins, sometimes bino harness. I like to be able to pull it on without a lot of hassle and I use it as a wind layer so want it to be able to fit over insulation when needed. It is a...
I have a fading love affair with danner.
30 years ago as a young army private, I bought my first pair of acadias. They were a fortune back then but great and light years ahead of the issue boots we had then. I owned a dozen pair through those years. Wore them out, resoled them, had them...
I had on a fleece. Sleep pretty warm and didn’t know how cold it was going to be that night until we got home.
There is a whole video somewhere that John Barklow goes thru the whole idea of sleeping as a system with varying layers to cover different temp ranges. I have thought about...
I only have a few nights in mine but like it. I would say the temp rating is spot on for most. I was a bit chilled in the mid 20s one night. The convenience of the arm holes is fine. Not sure how much I would use it in jacket mode or if it works that much better than just draping your bag...
Kuiu pro 200. On sale for $80 right now.
FWIW kuiu 97 is crazy warm for its weight and more breathable IMO. Grid fleece like the Sitka heavy weight are my go to for that roll and I have a growing love affair with my Sitka ambient pieces. More warmth for weight by far.
