I'm kinda in the same boat....I have a pair of Hanwag Alaska GTX that I do like, took me about 60 miles to break them, but they are stiff and heavy, and my old legs can feel it after hiking miles in them. I've tried several different high end European mountain boots and just can't find anything...
I’m probably gonna pick up a pair even knowing all the Salomon caveats… you are right the fit and feel was great. I’ve tried on the newer Quest 4s a couple times and never liked them.
I also noticed that the midsole and sole is the same as the Quest Element model
So I ran to scheels to check these out...yeah they are very much like the old Quest 4 before the latest redesign. If you were a fan of that shoe, or if you are a fan of the Quest Forces I would say check these out.
Anyone have any experience with the new Salomon Quest Tracker? To me the upper looks almost exactly like the Salomon Quest 4D Forces (the midsole and sole seems to be a bit different, more geared towards hunting.)

So another question… being that a big part of staying safe in grizz country is avoiding them … is it safer to spike in and camp far off established trails vs hiking in and out in the dark each day ( knowing that grizz like to walk/ hang out by established trails )
