    Sharpening Knives in the Field

I have a cheap gerber fixed blade ised for 20 years and carry a rada wheel sharpener that gets it really sharp. It becomes dull after one or two deer and I just sharpen it again. I know there are better knives and better sharpeners but it’s quick and easy and it works. Carry a havalon for...

    Realistic Shooting Distances

Don’t think I have ever shot over 100 from a tree. I definitely would shoot to 200 with a rest but can’t think of a time I could see that far from a tree. I use a saddle so it’s easy to always rest off the tree. I have shot 200 from the ground while still hunting/stalking

    Transporting venison in a cooler

What do you want the bone for? If you don’t want it at all, debone the meat and put chunks into 2.5 gallon freezer bags then put on ice or frozen milk jugs or whatever. Don’t put meat directly in contact with a trash bag whatever you do.

    Snack sticks without preservatives

You could use Ecocure. I tried it last year and will use it again this year. It’s expensive but still way cheaper than using a processor as I do everything myself

    Kuiu Pro LT Expereince?

I been using the pro lt 4000 for a couple months for whitetail hunts in the mountains as a daypack. It’s my first real hunting pack but I really like it. I have not used the load shelf and have only packed a small deboned doe a few hundred yards. I think the material is plenty tough even though...

    Wood Stove/Heater

I have a Drolet also. It is a black stag and comfortably heats our 1200 sf living area from the basement. My only complaint about it is the ash tray is useless. I wish it had a grate for ash to fall through into the ash tray. The stove fills up with ash and doesn’t heat as well until you clean...

First Hunt to Take with 5 Year Old?

You know your kid better than anyone else. Do something fun where they can move and doesn’t have to be quiet and it’s not too cold or too much walking. Also I would want a back up plan if plan A didn’t work. I have been taking my son deer hunting in the mountains since he was 4 and he is 6...

    Bottom of 1st metatarsal discomfort

I used to have that pain probably for a year or more. I was wearing a pad for it for a while and that helped. It’s been gone for a few years now. I think I was walking funny after knee surgery and “gripping” with my toe combined with boots that were too small. I moved up a half size in boots a...

    Backpack?

Do you plan to store all gear and clothes inside the pack? Most packs you can easily strap clothes to the outside also. If you want everything inside the pack I would want probably around 3000ci or more. That is the size I have used in the past and still have ended up with clothes strapped to...

    Saddle recommendations

Seems like a lot of people like the cruzr xc that is what I would get if I wasn’t still using my aerohunter flex. The RZR 2.0 is a great lightweight platform and you can’t beat hawk helium sticks for the money but lots of good options for sticks and many lighter than the heliums

    Favorite Game to Eat

I hunt bear, deer, and turkey. Turkey is our favorite. I haven’t had enough of anything else to know much about it. Hoping for a moose and elk hunt in the next few years.

    Lets Talk about Bear Scores

A lot of people bear hunt in WV where I am but most don’t get scored because they are not eligible with gps radio collars on the hounds used for hunting. We do have some big ones I know of one over 600 lbs a few years ago but recently our population has taken a hit from mange. Most people don’t...

    Last minute Colorado vacation planning

Check out YMCA of the rockies in Estes Park. There are some vrbo/airbnb bordering the ymca property too. We were just there with 2 kids and would recommend it. My first suggestion would be get the heck out of Denver asap.
