No recent bow pics but here's my arrow setup for elk. Element Archery Storm 250 with Nexxus Ti Outsert. Terra Firma Gladius 3b single bevel 125 grain head. Custom Bowtique Wrap. 505 grains moving 282 fps at launch.
Whitetail setup is similar - 445 grain Element Storm 300 with 100 grain Contact...
I like Q2i but they aren't quiet in any configuration I've tried with the exception of the Griff-X. Which steers like poo. Especially for fixed blades. Fusion-II in the normal configuration works well.
What you are describing is the new AAE Airrzr 26. Or AAE Hybrid 26. I also like the Easton...
@5MilesBack They actually came out with a Grade 5 Titanium version of the spitfire. Originally the branded it as a Truglo - now they brought it back to NAP. So they are clearing out the TI Truglo version. It's a solid head. Blade sharpness out of the box actually wasn't bad. A quick strop and...
I'm going to say Sevr 1.75. Maybe the new 1.5 hybrid but only in 125 grains in my opinion for Sevr. I'm not a huge fan of 2 blade cuts so the hole needs to be bigger if 2b but that's just me.
Then I'd say Evolution Hyde but that's a big cut for moose IMHO unless your over both 30" and over 75#...
That's a good setup. Personally, I didn't notice that micros grouped that much better than even standard. This is due to me shooting in the wind and it's so tough to stay steady. I still shoot micros or 5mm though.
New patterns are the biggest sales gimmick out there in hunting IMHO. First Lite does it, everyone does but it's just another way to try to get people to buy. Their patterns are already good. If you're in any of their patterns now I can't see how it's going to actually affect a hunt. They...
I'm not Zac - so I'll let him speak for himself. But Blazers are very good vanes if you have 1-3 degrees helical or angle on them. Straight they aren't very good. You need a little bit of twist but don't get crazy with it. You're just adding noise and drag for no real benefit.
There's good...
Yeah, it's definitely something to consider. Not to be rude, but he's a little over his ski's with he's analysis. It's good stuff he just doesn't know quite what to do with it. If you look at the Instron data like IW gathers it's tracking both force and distance. This is tracking time and force...
I watched this morning as well! It's a interesting test. However, something isn't jiving with the pressure testing. I messaged him about it and he said he had his units wrong. It's pounds of force - NOT foot-lbs like KE.
So he's measuring the force to penetrate and plotting that curve. It's...
This is well put. My rule of thumb is >410 grains for durability and <295 fps for flight forgiveness.
As others said - If you aren't BH tuned, then in my opinion you're not tuned. And if you're setup is so fast you can't reliably shoot a well designed fixed broadhead then in my opinion you're...
I agree. But at different dots... I've ruined too many broadheads and targets aiming at the same spot. You'll shear off even the highest quality machined head into a target hitting it from the rear sometimes. They just aren't designed to take a force that direction. I've got 4 torn up broadhead...
Agreed as always. Look down the arrow and see if you can rotate it to get clearance.
@NMOUTDOOR I'd look at a vane like a Q2i FUSION X-II 2.5" if you're having clearance issues as it is .45" high but still has good steering with is high and back shield cut. You MIGHT get away with a AAE 26...
Keep the distance close. Real close!
I'd use a heavier arrow in Micro in 500 spine. Being over spined will be fine for her at that low velocity and compound. I picked up some Bloodsport Onyx on Camofire awhile back and have some around. I'd focus on broadhead - I'd shoot a Magnus Stinger at...
I ditched mine a few years back. No gain that I could tell and as others said, one less thing to think about in the moment.
I've seen some lately with really small d loop type material. That might be OK as you could run with or without. But the bigger ones are a no go for me
