Try tailwind endurance fuel. Used by runners for long distances. Has some carbohydrates and the necessary sodium, potassium etc for hydration and fueling.
My wife and I have shot 8 goats in the last two years. Some in August archery heat, others in late September.
Same rule applies, dress it immediately. Get that hide off and quartered out and put it in bags and on ice.
Never aged it and it hits the processing table as soon as I get home...
I've found going a little further and setting up a camp and find a high glass point has worked well. Allows me to wake up around something hopefully and see what the pressure is doing. I like having others push them to me. Not all cases it works like this, but when It can it's been great.
Depends on if water is scarce. If there are a few water spots I don't wanna be competing with the wildlife for water so I'll lug in 6l to 8l for easy access at camp. If there is water everywhere ill take it and fill it. Otherwise, basic pack weight without food runs me about 30.
Days out will...
I've had luck during pre and actual rut utilizing a decoy but not stationary. Getting their attention and acting like the deke is feeding or moving over the hill from them.
I've had two large groups get within 40 yards coming to say hello while I was hidden
I can fit a deboned bull in 3 77 qt lifetime coolers with plenty of room for ice.
I've found my limit for moving a cooler full of ice and meat is around that weight. Anything bigger would take a few people.
I switched twice. Once from a 4mm axis to a 5mm fmj 1 month ago. Slight change in rest, both stiff arrows. Change 2 weeks ago and cut the fmj down a 1/4. No change.
Granted I had similar setups, stuffer arrow, load weight up front, same fletchings, inserts etc.
Are you married to those calibers? I think you would benefit from a 6.5-300 or a 300 weatherby or even a 257 weatherby. That 6.5 300 is an absolute screamer. 257 is very nice as well.
Keep in mind weatherby is releasing more standard rounds soon if that changes your mind.
That being said, I...
For early season I use down quilts. Anything after October I use a 15 degree and clothing makes up the rest. I've never felt the need for a 0 degree with the technical gear they make now
Wore stone glacier solids. My brother wore first lite camo and some solids. Both smoked turkeys 5 min apart on opening morning. Don't think they really cared and it's a heavy pressured area. Buy what fits you and have some fun.
I've shot 4 turkeys in the last 4 years wearing solids, t shirts etc.
Physically, I gave up weight lifting and went to long distance running. Did my first half in just over 2 hours. Running ever since. Went scouting and I have gas for days. Super excited to not have to worry about fitness and focus on the hunt.
Didn't draw crap this year except cows. Super down...
I utilize a mix of kuiu, stone glacier, and kuhl. Tends to be more stone as their sizing is consistent. Kuiu sizing can be an issue. I have longer arms and stone works great. I like kuiu vests and insulation though.
Decent cooler, get meat cool. Sett on top ice and drain and change ice repeatedly. Cardboard on top ice to prevent soaking helps.
I've driven antelope many miles in August home by this method. Just can't let it soak in my opinion and utilize every gas station
Target panic.
In all seriously congrats. You'll see what fits. Our boy Rhett just turned six and starts school on Monday. Time flies and you'll enjoy it.
I'm ordering a suppressor before the years end. Hope for some deals on black friday.
Otherwise I shoot a 300 wby with a big nasty brake on it and just use the standard neck band orange ear pro. Works just fine and hangs around my neck. I don't want anything else to charge or electronic in the...
