.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

That's an EKA Fishblade. It's Ike an EKA Swing blade but with a fillet type blade. For general field dressing, I like the fillet type blades better than the "skinning" type blades. https://www.lamnia.com/en/p/4331/knives/eka-fishblade-fishing-knife-green

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Got to try the 77TMK on moose tonight. Spike bull, but still probably about the size of a typical bull elk (?). Behind the shoulder shot. Hit was a little high but took out lungs and he dropped at the shot (around 70 yards). Muzzle velocity is around 2,730, so probably around 2560ish impact...

Shaw will be selling unported 223 Wylde barrels. They should be on the website soon, if not already. Speaking of Shaw 223 Wylde unported barrels. This was the first shot on game with the Little Big Gun. I wasn't exactly mountain hunting, but it was nice to carry around regardless.

Camo for hunting bear over bait?

My experience is camo won't hurt, obviously, but as long as you're not moving, probably not a big deal either way. We seem to have been equally successful regardless of clothing color over the years. The closer you are to the bait, like bow hunting, it may be more important, IDK. If you’re...

    Paint Cracking on Kimber Montana

One other thought: It looks like your stock is cracking right under your mag box. Be sure the bottom of your magazine isn't pressing into that area. I looked at a 300BLK Kimber once that was broken in that area due to that condition. You should be able to move the mag box slightly up and down...

    Paint Cracking on Kimber Montana

I bought something like this kit on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/392579001928 It worked great. Sounds like you wouldn't need much at all. I think it would be worth trying before you scrap the stock. As I recall, I contacted Kimber about a fix as well, and the $ amount they wanted would have...

    A pistol failure story…

I was in the same boat. Over the past 30 years I've gone through a couple of 44s, then G29, G20, and a couple of other 10mms, then 45 Super 1911s. All the 10s are gone, the 45 Supers retired, the 44 99% retired and now it's almost always a 9mm. After reading multiple accounts of everything 9mm...

    A pistol failure story…

I think we may be living in parallel universes... I was still hunting for moose in a forest. Didn't find a moose that day, but did find a grizzly about 50 yards away feeding on devil's club berries. In order to get a clear shot I had to walk up a leaning birch tree to get 6 feet or so higher...

    Paint Cracking on Kimber Montana

Well...I had something perhaps similar on mine. It had a crack in the paint on the wrist, behind the trigger guard. Could flex the stock and see the crack slightly open and close. Not confidence inspiring. Tried a couple of epoxy "patches" to no avail; the crack would just reappear...

So the person survived a Grizzly bear attack by killing the bear, but the rest of us should do it differently. Makes sense, right?

Following the data that's out there, no differentiation is really necessary. So far, handguns 9mm and up have been almost 100% effective for bear defense, regardless of the species of bear. The only case of failure (I think just one) was with a 357 Magnum. He survived, but wasn't sure he...

So the person survived a Grizzly bear attack by killing the bear, but the rest of us should do it differently. Makes sense, right?

I apologize for: 1. Not reading the article right off. 2. Not letting it go...but this shit really bugs me. "When a grizzly bear is sprinting towards you at 30 miles per hour and you’re panicking, the chances of squeezing off a perfect shot seem unlikely, and even if you get lucky, the problem...

Yeah, I have multiple Faxons and every one of them shoots well. Maybe check everything before you write that barrel off.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

When hunting with a gasser, I chamber the top round by hand for the same reason. They can get pretty beat up cycling them multiple times from the magazine without being fired.

So the person survived a Grizzly bear attack by killing the bear, but the rest of us should do it differently. Makes sense, right?

Not saying your experience isn't valid, but the data very clearly shows far less human fatalities when firearms are used compared to bear spray. The point I made about having to pick between bear spray or a firearm potentially being worse if you have both is illustrated by the man that tried to...

So the person survived a Grizzly bear attack by killing the bear, but the rest of us should do it differently. Makes sense, right?

My Bachelors degree is in wildlife biology...I know first hand it is filled with people with this mentality of "animal worship", especially large predators for some reason. To add to this point: One of the stories about using a handgun for bear defense happened at a cabin directly across the...

    300 Blackout hunting round?

What velocity are you loading your SSTs? Do you usually get exits with them? I've used 125 BT, but not the SST. I think I'll try those as they cheaper than the 125BT and they're actually available. The BT works great but I'm getting a little tired of Nosler prices and Nosler availability.

    300 Blackout hunting round?

Can't go wrong with this choice. Haven't tried them yet, but it looks like the Hornady 110 CX will do really well also. Would be worth trying if you see those available.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Anyone have experience with 88s at 16" 223 type velocities, whatever those might be? I've only tried a couple of loads with 2000MR and velocity was only 2,450ish. I would think it could do somewhat better than that, but maybe not much at 2.318", which is long as I can go without windowing my AR...

So the person survived a Grizzly bear attack by killing the bear, but the rest of us should do it differently. Makes sense, right?

I realize you're not saying this article is definitive, but it's definitely biased in favor of bear spray. "In Alaska, there have been no human fatalities in encounters where bear spray was used." A little behind the times, there have been at least two since the article was printed. Zero where...
