Hey @shoeshineman . Right now our 14x16 tents are finishing right around 16' 2" - 16' 5" for the length. The width hangs out in the 14'0" - 14'1" range. Each tent maker has their own philosophy on what a finished size of a 14x16 is. As you stated they can vary, but should be inches either...
This is the new Go Tent. It has the traditional pole system. The advantage of that system is that it has less poles than the internal frame, so it is lighter. The internal frame has more of an open concept. It has more poles and is heavier.
The tent itself for a 12x14 would roll up into more...
We like to say the size of a stove is dependent on size of wall tent and the conditions you are going to be in. Archery hunting in September is typically very different from late season rifle hunting. Let us know if we can help you any further. Good luck!
Pack and play is the route that I have used.
Do not "test" a new heat source that doesn't work. Momma wakes up very mad in the middle of the night with an unhappy baby.
The 10x12 (brand new) packed up is approximately 14" x 22". The staff Go Tent, which has a sewn in floor, is approximately 16" x 30". The sewn in floor does add some bulk to it.
The staff Go Tent does have a sewn in floor with the zipper cut out. I used that tent during archery, 1st season...
By myself I can do it around 30-45 minutes weather dependent. A brand new 14x16 tent rolled up at our shop is approximately 15" x 33". A 14x16 would be tough to do with a side by side. Doable, but tough. The hardest part with that side by side will be transporting the poles.
We have some new stakes that we are coming out with in the next few months. Very similar to old army stakes. They will work very well with the ropes/guy lines. I used the prototypes all fall and loved them.
As far as how well they do with wind, I was in a pretty good wind storm in Colorado...
Like others have stated a 14x16 would be the minimum size we would recommend. Other things to consider when looking at which size of tent to purchase is a cooking station, eating area, and if you plan on using a wood stove to heat your tent. Good luck in your tent purchase!
