That is correct. Corey Jacobsen used it last season during his fall elk hunts as a solo shelter. He couldn't say enough about all the extra space at no weight penalty compared to the traditional freestanding tents he had been using.
Thanks for your feedback. The door configuration was definitely purposefully designed to avoid unnecessary stress on the zippers as well as provide a versatile option for being able to glass during inclement weather.
The footprint gets staked out using 6 stakes. Once the tipi is installed over the top, then the footprint attaches at 6 connection points using small hooks on the footprint and loops on the tipi wall. Josh Boyd's review has a picture showing this connection point.
Interesting idea.... We took the "system" approach when designing the CROSSTREK Stabilization feature of the tipi so that you didn't have to bring any additional carbon fiber poles or stays but technically you could use something other than your trekking poles. That being said, it is super fast...
