I shoot 80 pounds, but not because of cam or Rogan. I really wanted a bowtech air raid a long time ago because it came in 75 pound draw, but couldn't afford it. I just like it because I can shoot a slightly heavier arrow without losing anything in trajectory and keeping a reasonable draw cycle...
Interesting. Peterson indicates that the srp pockets are specifically for running higher pressures. I'm new to hand loading, so I don't understand enough of the why. I'll have to look into it.

This is helpful. I think at this point if Peterson started making 243 brass with srp pockets again I'd be settled on the 243 ai.

So here's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm torn between a 6 cm or a 243 ai. With a 243 ai, I can run a shorter barrel and still get my goal of 3000 fps or something close. The downside is it seems I may have to try a few powders and then there's the fire forming. With the 6 cm, it seems like...
I take back my earlier statement. Instead of proof of insurance from larger calibers maybe we take up a fund and offer a reward for someone to prove they never miss with a magnum and can shoot it better than a 223.

That's pretty good velocity. Is that just a faster barrel? Is that kind of velocity common with the match burners? I was thinking I was either going to have to go with a 24 inch barrel or jump up to a 243 AI to get near 3k. But maybe it can be done at 20 inches with the match burners?

Well this sucks. My last bow was a bowtech that blew up. Went with a new lift since everybody seems to like Mathews and I had never heard of any quality issues. Got an 80 pound 29 inch draw lift 33. We shall see I guess...

Rokslide needs to set up a bounty for evidence that the big guns do something magic with bad shots. Give a custom rifle away and name it Geico or something if someone can prove it.

I keep trying to make this simple and it isn't working. I'm going to try one last time. You said you shoot the 300 wsm for insurance. You're pointing out just now that I might make a bad shot someday with a smaller caliber. I'm asking you what evidence you have, photographic or otherwise, that...
I'm not trying to be insulting, just saying if we're trying to make the best decisions based on data, it would seem to me smaller calibers are the smarter choice when you're talking deer, elk, bears, or even moose. Lower recoil, higher hit rates, more than adequate damage, etc. All supported by...
Here's the thing though...if I go back to a larger caliber because of limitations, I will be able to explain what the larger caliber gives me without just calling it insurance or room for error. I'll be able to say well, the wound channel is wider or deeper or something and could provide photos...
You didn't really answer the question though. What are you seeing from that 150 grain bullet compared to the 6mm or 223 thread photos, that convinced you that you're getting any amount of insurance? I'm shooting a larger cartridge than you and a bigger bullet and I don't think I'm seeing any...
Can you describe this though? Or define it? Based on all the necropsy photos in various small caliber threads, you still feel the fragmenting bullets in a 300 RUM is enough of an advantage to warrant the higher recoil, lower hit percentage, higher powder usage, etc over a smaller cartridge with...
Wouldn't "splatter bullets" as you call them provide more of the "insurance" people talk about? The eldx has always made it through to at least the offside hide for me. So penetration hasn't been a problem.

I keep seeing references to insurance that people get from larger calibers. Or smaller calibers only work with a perfect shot. How much insurance are people thinking they get? I'm shooting a 300 RUM right now until I finish building my 6mm, but the photos I'm seeing from the smaller calibers...
My grandpa told me as a joke once that hummingbirds migrate by riding on the backs of Canada geese. Its embarrassing how old I was when I discovered that wasn't true.
