Thanks for everyone's input. Found out over the weekend a buddy (similar size as me) has the Yukon set and for a case of beer will let me borrow it. Waiting to hear back from guide to make sure he's good with that and I will hopefully be good to go.
Am taking a last minute kodiak hunt this spring and am scrambling for rain gear. Here's my 2 options. 1. Get a set of the pvc stuff (i.e. Helly Hansen) and taking the Kuiu Chugach stuff I have for better days. 2. Ordering some good stuff (i.e. kuiu yukon) and only taking one set. Would...
Thanks to everyone for the help but I'm putting this on hold. Got a text from a kodiak guy and he's got a cancelation for a bear I'm taking for 2 months from now . Guns gonna have to keep the glass it's got and I gotta spend some time behind it among a bunch of other scrambling
Firstlite thin merino base, Kuiu Pelton 240, and Kuiu Superpro down coat (lower setup about the same with the Super pro pants as the outer) sitting on stand for 11 hours in WI with a high of 18 for the day. The stuff is warm.
got my first check from current company working summers in 1996. Climbed in the office after graduating college 5 years later. Sure it's not the same everywhere but loyalty has definitely paid off for me.
Grew up snowmobiling in WI. We started a long time ago and it was always easiest for the group I used hit the hills with to head to Togwotee Mountain Lodge. Haven't been for 3 years or so but we stayed there, rented sleds there, and they have groups that go out depending on your skill level...
If I had more time would love to do more. But running a business, family, ... all that kind of stuff limits what I can and can't do. It's LOTS of whitetail and a trip west to the mountains when I can.
Bold assumption... :D . Definitely a novice, but confidence in longer shots is getting better the more I learn/practice. With the right scenario would be comfortable to about 500 yards at this point.
Thanks for all the opinions. Think I'll either swap a 3.5-18x44 I have on another gun or see whats out there for sale with an objective that's bigger than the 32 I've got on the gun now.
DANG IT!! I'm screwed 😀. Ultimately it's a moose hunt so the magnification is probably close enough, but you hit the nail on the head with the low light shots. Gonna do some low light shooting with it an make an assessment. Thanks
Saw this one sliding down the list on the General page and wanted to make sure that everyone knows this recent "well known rokslider" is too stupid to give up on this miserable thread
Planning a DIY moose hunt for a couple of years from now and was looking for an excuse to possibly buy another scope :). Have a 340 Wby with a 1.5-8x32 Vortex Razor on it that I was planning on taking. After looking at the contract it appears that if I get a crack at a wolf, black bear or...
Wait... I'm a grown man?! SWEET! :D . Joking aside, I can't argue with you on that point as I'm sitting here typing on my Dell laptop, wearing my Levi jeans, with a big wad of Copenhagen in my mouth. Guess my point was that I try to put more stock in what people like me thinks than some...
I've spent WAY too much on new gear in the last few years and ZERO decisions were made because of advertising. One thing that might have swayed any decisions were the opinions of what the folks on this forum. Thanks for the honesty Side note: The fella that taught me to hunt (pa) shot more...
