Exactly man. The hunting lines do not provide good value and have cq issues way more often than Arc, OR, TNF, etc.
People would save a fortune buying non hunting brands. And before we get a flood of but they donate some money to conservation but they’ll save us from non hunter agendas, I would...
If you're relying on 2017 data, it's a pretty bad year for future reference. This will be heavily influenced by the one-year effects of the 2016-2017 winter. Highly recommended to do your own research--as I'm sure you do Resesarcher--that looks are 3+ years and, for Idaho, considers before and...
Agreed.
And long range is not a good look for nonhunters. The wounding loss is not on the same levels as shooting within 300 and if guys says it’s the same they lose credibility to me. So many goofballs lobbing long shots these days. The time involved is something many won’t invest in.
Haha love festivals. This is one of my fav lines describing chats on here.
Swaro love festivals can sometimes get a little hot for bystanders. Perhaps I could suggest they get a room.
It’s just funny to the residents and old timers here because most guys get destroyed by the Frank unless they’re honestly really strong fitness wise. Tons of access points early into the Frank units but it can snow hard in September and make access really dicey. Mid October is seriously pushing...
It’s purchase justification like you say. But when I’m finding hundreds of animals to look at each year, many during hunting season, and in a variety of difficult glassing situations, it’s hard for me to listen to people automatically dismissing mid range and glorifying the alpha. Disagree on...
One more thought- the UT friend regularly takes and has on trail cams pictures of 320”+ bulls in the HU. You’d have a better chance at finding a wolverine and a wolf in the Frank than a 320. They just don’t get that old and nutritional deficiencies stop many bulls at or below 300.
Agreed the Kowa will be awesome but can you actually say that the Ares wouldn't be very functional and in the ballpark in terms of glass quality? My experience is most guys who have the cash or are devoted to the idea of buying top end glass haven't seriously explored the mid range options today...
I've hunted the Frank but not the HU. A close friend who lives in UT hunts the HU with a buddy with horses. There seems to be a noticeable difference in elk numbers from my perspective as we have shared notes. If you're like most Idaho residents, once you move you may enjoy an occasional trip...
Color is good on the Ares, very minimal distortion. I wrote a long review on it and a bunch of guys on here have bought them and chimed in. I’ve spent just a little time behind alpha type glass. I just don’t feel the need at all and I don’t want to convince myself that I need it for some...
Athlon Ares is great for about $500. Kowa is awesome for $1000+. The S2 is well liked and the Maven. No need to jump to Swaro.
Honestly I can’t see any reason to upgrade my Ares. I don’t think I’d see any more critters; I see lots.
It has the frame to carry $150 pounds and has similar construction as their hunting line packs. Great value. I just picked up a Terraframe 50 a couple weeks ago and I think it will be awesome. The 50 will be plenty for me for up to 4 days but I pack light.
