My advice is you are setting yourself up with too much rifle. I’m assuming newish hunter also means newish shooter. A 300wm or 7prc is hard recoiling and will never allow you to learn good marksmanship. A 6.5 cm is plenty for elk and will be much more reasonably shooting.
Form I’ve got a dumb question. I tore my rifle down to get the barrel threaded and I’m going to put everything back together with degrease/paint pen now that everything is finally going to stay. My scope is a tenmile in um tikka rings and assuming that I can remount it without having to relevel...
Is everything tight on the rifle? Check all your screws action, base, ring and make sure nothing is loose. If nothing is loose I would check to make sure you didn’t pinch the scope tube when it was mounted.

Vertically split rings can do weird things to scopes and I don’t trust them.
Then get a limb saver air tech and the vertical grip piece.
