    Turkey Gaggle Question

In my un-professional opinion another Tom will take its place fairly soon, the Jakes will pretend to be a Tom but only temporarily. I also think the hens generally stick together in their respective groups until they are bred, then they will go solo and do their thing.

    Turkey Diaphragms

I've been backpacking in for my turkey hunts lately and it's often warm with very little humidity in NM and things dry out fast, including my calls, with that being said I have a game plan after listening to everyone. The plastic fork ends work really well, way easier to insert than toothpicks...

    Turkey Diaphragms

This year I went with Woodhaven in hopes for better quality which so far they seem to be but I am still having to pull them apart after they dry if I don't put a toothpick in it, even if I rinse them in water before putting them away. I haven't used these Woodhaven calls in a week long hunting...

    Turkey Diaphragms

I had wondered if was something that I had eaten during the day but these new ones that I've been using I have made sure to start with a fresh mouth and they are still sticking. I may just keep one in my mouth the whole day so it doesn't dry out.

    Turkey Diaphragms

Last year I started using diaphragm calls and every time I put one in my mouth the latex was stuck together and I had to try and peel the it apart , after a couple days of doing this the delicate latex cuts would rip rendering the call worthless. I tried taking a drink of water to rinse them off...

    Pluck a Turkey

Plucking isn't too bad but feathers go everywhere, I like hanging upside down and pluck it a couple hours after the kill, it sure keeps things clean.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

No doubt about it, when you are blind to the world that is exactly what you are. A few weeks back I was down by the NM border deer hunting, I had seen numerous drug smugglers and their spotters. Anyway I was sitting in the tipi eating dinner and thinking about the craziness I had seen over the...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

I was going to write a big long story but I don't have the time right now so this is a condensed version of my hopefully once in a lifetime creepy backcountry experience. So I was packed in the Gila wilderness a few miles on a solo elk hunt, this was an area that you had to pack water in so it...

NM Habitat Stamp Program (water catchments)

Hey, the programs are state specific and all funds go directly to improve that respective states habitat. I think it's only required if you are going to hunt or fish otherwise you can access those lands anytime you want without buying a stamp

Once In A Lifetime New Mexico Oryx.

I actually went on a hunt that the hunter whacked a small bull, long story short is that he didn't give the spotters a chance to even glass the animal. We saw some oryx go in a little canyon so we snuck in to see if there was any that were mature and when we peaked over the hill he just pulled...

Are you a generalist or specialist?

I hunt anything I can, not only do I love to hunt different animals I love to eat them, it helps that I don't have any problem cooking it up. So I guess I am a generalist in hunting but a specialist at cooking the protein to perfection.

    Chiropractor treatment

When I was young I rode bareback broncs and was in residential construction for 35 years. My upper back got jacked up from broncs while young and I spent 20 + years having chiropractors suck the life out of my insurance and make me think I needed to keep coming back but the issues never really...
