Someone does a test and immediately every single scope from that brand is a POS, forever and ever and ever. Same when one passes a test, then every scope from that brand is solid forever and ever and ever.
All rifle scopes fail - all of them, from every single brand. I have personally witnessed...
There is a trade off for everything and most know I am not a fan of very light or super light rifles for anything other than the toughest and highest altitude hunting applications.
With anything is a "lite" I am always going to be a little less sure about reliable and repeatable performance.
It can definitely be both. One way to be sure is to take one on a vise or shooting rest...if you ever wanted to be anal about it, which no one here ever does, especially not me LOL
Assuming it is a 4130 stock bbl?
A carbon ring before the rifling is not a huge deal...unless you are starting to see pressure signs and lack of accuracy.
It can be cleaned and there are a 100 ways to clean it. When I have seen it in the past, we use a brass based "steel" wool in fine grade...
Tidal stress - zero for me
Coriolis - nope, if you were at direct East and West to the meridian and were getting full affect, it is somewhere around 2 1/2 to 3 inches for the first 1000 yards. 97% of hunters and shooters wouldn't need to think about that. Ever
I personally bought and used Lathrop and Sons Mtn Extremes.
They will custom fit the boots to your feet and they are built like no other boot. Expressly made for sheep country and I put more than 200 miles on mine and they still felt and performed incredibly well. Yup we are talking 600 to 700...
I will second the NXS glass criticism but ONLY when compared to other price point scopes. What I have noticed is that the reticles and glass are very good however at the highest magnifications, the visible light transmission seems to fall off a cliff. Especially with the NX8's.
Is this a hunting, precision, or both scope?
Agree with much of what has been said here with NF, Maven, and the Mark 5 although the Mark 4 might be a great choices as well.
Pay attention to available reticles with FFP scopes out to realistic distances. I prefer something more clean, for hunting...
I have worn Crispi, Lathrop and Sons and Schnees throughout the years. They are all very good boots...including the Briksdal
First, get someone to fit your feet correctly. No matter what high end boot you pick, they have to fit to perform out here. I would recommend a mid flex boot...you dont...
SSTs are a good bullet, have used it in the past. To me, it was the kitchen sink of bullets having almost all the bullet attributes in one "shot" LOL - Cannelure, Polymer tipped, interlock ring.
It has been supplanted by all the new designs that drive the market. BC and weights are a little...
I have had a few Howa 1500 action built rifles come through - the Howa 1500 is basically the Weatherby Vanguard rifle which is fine - especially given you won it. Congrats!!!
Trouble shooting recommendations - Overall, its a good rifle however
Make sure all bolts are torqued to specs
I would...
Have built and run a lot of Ferrari style rounds, which is where I place the Shermans. They have their place and its a cool idea, if you can deal with the idiosyncrasies for all the extra speed and are dead set on getting absolutely everything you can out of a "factory" supported round, send it...
I have 400 AMAX bullets for sale - shot 200 of them some time ago and dont see myself using the rest. They usually run about 45 bucks per 100 and I am asking 100 bucks even plus 15 bucks for USPS shipping
Thanks
My experience with 175 ELDX on elk - with sub 1/2 MOA accuracy. Slightly above me and quartering away at 385 yards. Mzl Velocity in 7mm was 3129 and was able to dig these two out of the off shoulder having penetrated all the way through both lungs and the very top of the heart.
65-70% weight...
I am hearing of a new class coming this year focused on primarily the hunting aspect of LR shooting, with field course and full accomodations
I think Elk Creek outfitting in Sponsoring it near Heron Montana with some ex military person teaching
