6.5 PRC vs 6.5 CM? I currently use a 7 PRC, but looking for a lighter weight, lighter recoiling rifle dedicated for deer hunting.

Another vote for 6cm over a 6.5 for deer out to 500. Took this buck at 535 with my 20” 6cm the crew at LRI slapped together for me. 108 Berger elite hunter @2925fps and it was one and done this buck took about a half step.

Anti or Anti-X?

I own and shoot a few of each of the defiance actions mentioned. For me it comes down to the magazine option I’m using. I run the anti-x with a BDL style mag and an anti with the pinned talleys in a custom ADL style built. I wouldn’t want a rail with anything I had to feed from above. That...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Tagged this Idaho general season buck at 535 yards last season with my 6 creed running 108 Berger elite hunter’s at 2925fps out of the 20” barrel.

Ultralight Custom Bolt Builds

I love it, I’ve got several of them now. One on a 5lb 6mm creed and this one is a 7PRC. Handles like a traditional wood stock, nice and thin with grippy checkering. If you are a dedicated prone/tripod shooter it would not be my first choice but neither of them have bothered me for casual steel...

Ultralight Custom Bolt Builds

I managed to stuff a 22” proof prefit into a manners UC mated up to a defiance ruckus that’s hunter cut. Hawkins hunter mag, arc m-10 rings and a kahles 6-24. Whole thing finished out at exactly 9lbs and is stupid accurate.

Not custom per se but I dropped this one chambered in 6 Remington into a manners eh8 with PTG bottom metal and a trigger tech primary set at 2.5lbs.

Lets talk bottom metals

Hawkins M5, in a short action you can run 5/10 round mags or grab a flush fit for the field. No more likely to lose a mag than release your standard BDL. That said I have a few custom ADL style builds for extended backpacking trips in inclement weather.

22” proof prefit. Hornady precision hunter with the 175eldx runs 2880fps. Haven’t tested the 180’s or federal ammo yet.

What 6mm for a trainer and a hunting rifle?

Slap a rubber band around the base of the mag or if you have a good local shop that has viton o-rings in different diameters and that rattle will be gone.
