    Ruger No. 1 rebarrel question

Either of those would be awesome to hunt with! Right now there are Ruger number #1’s in 45-70 and 35 Whelen on Gun Broker. It would be much easier to add an international forend than doing barrel work. Well, maybe not easier than a rebore, but I doubt there’s enough barrel thickness for that.

    Which 6mm cartridge!?

I was looking through Shootingbot - looks like only Nosler 6.5-284 and Peterson 284 are readily available new. On Gun Broker there’s a good supply of new old Hornady and new old Winchester.

    Insoles…expensive mistake??

A hard insole may take some getting used to - same thing with higher arched boots like Whites/Nicks. I’d be surprised if most hard insole don’t recommend wearing a short time each day and working up.

    Classified prices

Not every barrel in an auction is bad, but every bad barrel ends up in an auction.

Does Loctite alter torque on scope rings

I still find it strange that very very few applications anywhere outside of firearms specify dry threads. Very few.

Does Loctite alter torque on scope rings

Finally, a chart with real numbers, dry and wet threads and clamping force! Good job tracking that down.

Any old gun gurus out there?

The most knowledgeable guy on stamps has to be Ian at Forgotten Weapons (YouTube and/or whatever the gun friendly video hosts are) - I can’t recall if he ever did a deep dive on the Springfield. War time production is interesting - you end up making guns with the manufacturing facilities and...

Any old gun gurus out there?

That’s a cool old rifle. It’s too bad the steel in these is so questionable, or more of them would be seen sporterized. That is quite the collection of marks. At least one is the stamp for a government inspector. One is a proof mark after firing the rifle. Maybe a plant stamp and or lot...

Does Loctite alter torque on scope rings

That sucks, but luckily minor denting won’t hurt anything. Weird - sounds like you put more of an effort in than most. It seems like thread lockers increase clamping force something like 20% over dry threads, or something like that. I wouldn’t think it would make a big difference. It could...

    Stihl ms291 acting up

Lean running can be air leaks, as well as fuel issues. Check for loose carb and jug bolts first, then a quick check for air leaks at the jug gasket and carb to jug, can be spraying carb cleaner, brake cleaner, propane from a torch (no flame!), or anything flammable along the gasket surfaces and...

    Upcoming reloading shortages

To insulate themselves from tariffs, all sorts of companies are stocking up and packing warehouses as we speak, actually they started months ago. Shipping numbers of inbound freight TEU’s (20’ equivalent units) shows a lot more freight than normal has been ordered. This years numbers spiked...

How do you guys keep track of brass firings?

I’ve used a scribe (nail) to scratch a faint line from the primer outward - fast to apply and easy to read. Usually I’m not vibrating cases to clean, so even a sharpie line on the case head lasts the life of the case. Any way it’s done is a pain in the butt, so to simplify life I’ve started...

    Upcoming reloading shortages

I assume he will pick up where he left off, right? I don’t think we will have to make up any TDS stuff, his past administration had enough weekly drama all by itself. No? Hopefully he makes good decisions.

    Reloading/ammo shortages -

That’s two of his talking points from like a week ago - tariffs on all imported goods from everywhere - his words not mine. As we speak, Europe is stockpiling ammo outside of support for Ukraine. I can’t find the recent article about military contracts, but it has already been happening. It...

    Can we legalize suppressors now?

I see old magazine ads where anyone could mail order guns, and all those old guns make me jealous. The whole FFL process is a joke in this day and age - let guns and whatever the proper name is for a can, be bought freely and let us e-sign whatever. I think calling fries “chips” is one of the...

    Building a Custom Rifle

I’m a huge fan of a second accurate rifle - if groups aren’t what should be, shooting the second rifle instantly shows if it’s you, swapping scope instantly shows if it’s that, and if it’s down to be worked on the other rifle is ready to go. More = better.

    Preserving Euro Hung Outside

A lot of euro skulls from top taxidermists are air brushed. I don’t see how an automotive or equipment paint wouldn’t work great on the skull, but keeping antlers antler color is a hard one. I can’t ever recall seeing exterior antlers with the natural brown preserved - they all seem to...

Two party system: a necessary evil?

One birthday party is plenty - if the other relatives don’t want to come they don’t have to. The birthday party trends on Tik-Dork or Facebroke or Xtra Dumb are pretty weird - we were happy with one party at the dining room table, a home made cake and ice cream. Our new daughter in law was...

    Reloading/ammo shortages -

Like him or not, Donald says tariffs are coming - increased prices on anything imported covers an awful lot, so Tikkas, carbon fiber for stocks, material for clothes, scopes, imported powder, even avocados from Mexico. Even more impactful, European countries are stockpiling ammo and equipment...
