    North/central Montana hunt

I would second this. I do not live in Montana but I have ran into birds almost everywhere I've hunted in Montana.

    How's everybody make a living

zoning/land use attorney - wish I could hunt more than I do, but I'm sure I'd be wishing that regardless of what job I have. I still get out plenty.

Lyme Disease & Ticks - What's your experience?

Cant imagine anywhere is worse than Long Island. I had countless embedded when I used to hunt there but no lyme's luckily. I was young and dumb at the time and took no preventative measures. The above preventative measures have worked for me. Permethrin is great. One more thing to add is that if...

    College Party Life?

D1 baseball, graduated in 2015. Greek life was not big at my school, but we might as well have been a fraternity. Disgusting how much we partied, which is primarily why we were a terrible baseball program. Had the time of my life and those guys are still my best friends. Pretty much quit...

    Gator hunt

Can attest to this - fished a pond at sunset each night during my osceola trip this spring. Pretty much could not use a topwater because every gator in the pond raced after it.

Raw Wild Meat: you eat it?

As others have stated, never had any issues snacking on thin slices of backstrap while butchering. As for your bear meat comment, the FDA recommendations refer to the minimum temperature required to kill trichinosis and other meat-bugs instantly. You can kill them at lower temps if cooked for...

    On being a flake

What gets me is the new guys who claim that they want to hunt, spend $$ on gear/licenses, and still flake when me or my hunting partners offer to bring them out. Have heard every excuse in the book, but when its go time, guys are just not willing to wake up at 3 am or suffer in the cold. As...

    Leafy Suits

x2 on North Mountain leafy suit. Great during those hot late season turkey hunts, and I'll throw it on over the puffy during those cold late season deer hunts.

    Learning to call

Calling All Turkeys has a good compilation of hen vocalizations that I find to be a good resource for mimicking real hens. Depending on the hen they can sound wildly different so you do not have to sound perfect, as long as you have the right cadence/rhythm. If you go mouth call (which I think...

    Whitetail pants

I have beat the snot out of my Prana's for all manner of pursuit including hot early season and freezing late season treestand hunting. You can get them around $50 on sale. Just layer up underneath w/ heavyweight wool and you're good to go.

What choke and ammo combo are you running for what effective killing range?

Jeb's headhunter .560 choke w/ apex turkey ninja 8.5's. I could easily kill one at 60 yds w/ that setup if I wanted but 60 is beyond my personal limit. When I'm feeling pretentious I'll break out the side by side with 2.5 inch paper shells.

Anyone send a Rifle back to Remington for trigger recall?

Timney - $150 or less and 10 mins of your time vs. God knows how long to send it off. My essentially unfired hand me down 700 was not included in the recall although it very well should have been. Two discharges the first time I took it out was enough for me.

Otto NoizeBarrier Micro Ear Protection Review, By Derik Henderson

My ears have rang my entire life for reasons unknown, even before the few unprotected gun shots that I have been exposed to. Therefore I am pretty sensitive to the hearing issue. I picked up a pair of Otto's recently and they have been great so far in the turkey woods. No issues with wind or...

    Lowa Renegade GTX first impressions

I run the green superfeet insoles in my renegades too. I have pounded them over the last year including Montana archery elk and south Florida osceolas a few weeks ago. 10/10 and no leaks, although I often use gaiters with them.
