What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I shot 7mm wby and 300 win mag for years. Grew up shooting as an early teen a 12 ga double bbl Ithaca at pigeons flying out of the hay now. Shot 12 ga slugs for deer. Recoil doesn’t “bother me”. I shoot the 223 much more accurately and am able to make a first shot hit, spot a shot and correct...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

Re: gen Z thinking they can 👍 and Im 68. Far from Gen Z. And I hate cell phones and am embarrassed for anyone over 50 who can text with two hands and still love the idea that there’s nothing like too much horsepower. But the 223 w/77TMKs has proven itself a superior killer in mortal hands to...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

@ 4,000-5,000' and 85 degrees. I was curious how they'd do in the heat and I did have a few pierced primers but that didn't alarm me much as I am using CCI 400's and have had pierced primers with moderate loads. However, I am saving that load for winter hunting.

5 yo first time shooting questions

Started my boys out on BB guns. They didnt advance to a lethal weapon until they'd demonstrated they could be trusted with one. They also witnessed what a 22 can do to a bird or chipmunk and were made to ponder just what that would do to a person.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Ha! Yeah, right! ROFL Yeah, but depending on the person it might not be a real tight bond. ;) It's not really like it's a secret. It's been discussed on RS in other places. Okay, back on topic kiddos Only a short time till another massive influx of dead critters thanks to 223 & TMK I'm...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Handloads, yes. No offense but the person who shared this load with me made me promise not to share; seriously. I will say it's on the hot side.

    Gunnison area horse rental

Agreed. A high probability of big disaster, let me count the ways. I'd never take an unknown-to-me horse in the mountains. Heard several stories of borrowed horses, rarely have they turned out well. A better bet would be line up someone to pack out your elk if you happen to get one. If you're...

How to get into diy western hunting

If you can talk a hunting buddy into going with you can cut expenses. But don't let going alone stop you. Get an OTC tag, throw your stuff in your rig ( whatever it may be) and go. Be smart. Grab groceries at home wherever it's cheapest. Don't go late in the year, especially if your rig is a...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Not sure what distance you're asking about but I'm at 1800 fps at 675 and have been plinking at over 1000 with it without issue. Tikka T3X, 1 in 8 twist, 18" bbl.

When you have lost an animal, what do you believe was the cause?

In the mountains a storm or squall can come up virtually out of nowhere. If you're there for a couple weeks it's hard to completely avoid. Regardless of circumstances, losing any animal always sucks a lot of the joy out of the hunt.

When you have lost an animal, what do you believe was the cause?

    1) In my early years I'd say lack of tracking skills 2) A couple I lost due to rain or snow starting right after the shot

    Cheap suppressor wrap

It's on a bolt gun. I"ve run ten at a time thru it without issue. Several hundred in a day. It never gets more than warm to the touch so the zipties are at no risk. I don't know why I'd ever need to remove it. Just thought it would be "proper" to put this in the DIY forum ;)

    Elk hunting grizzly country

When you get an animal down quarter it immediately and get them hung in some shade on the north side of a tree away from the gut pile in an area you can approach safely with good visibility when you pack out the rest. My experience tells me bears prefer gut piles
