It is sad these days, but it amazes me how many people are scared to say "changed my mind, sorry". They'd rather just hide their head in the sand, A sad reflection of our current society.
The trocars fly really well but I my limited experience their blade quality and edge retention are poor. I only used them on one moose and will not use them again. Killed the moose, but it needed a finishing arrow ~45 minutes after the first shot. The blades were largely dull to the touch after...
MBH’s don’t work like bullets, there isn’t a lower threshold in terms of FPS that is required to actuate the blades. Most would deploy if you slowly pushed them into a target by hand.
The fundamental issue is that MBH’s generally have inefficient blade profiles and wildly different profiles in...
On my grizzly hunt, I had my pistol in my pack belt and brought along an extra holster with a paddle in my top lid that I swapped to when I was going on a stalk. Quick change and not a lot of extra weight, space, or cost.
Some guys use a cheap, soft leather holster on their pants belt, so it is...
I have a friend who I met back in the mid-1990’s as their family makes the broadheads I shoot. They have offered me deals and freebies for years but I pay full retail for the product because I personally wouldn’t feel good about making a recommendation about the product if my motivations could...
If you just want to tinker, go ahead. But if you are trying to improve the performance of your arrow, this is very likely an exercise in futility as you will not be able to see or measure any benefit that may come from dropping 10 grains and adding 0.x% FOC.
I wish Ryan the best, but I hope he doesn’t figure out the hard way why some countries/provinces/outfitter have 3 different minimum caliber/energy requirements for 3 species that all weigh ~2,000# - eland, giraffe, and cape buffalo. While they have similar weights, they are not similarly...
Is that a mature male and are animal’s dimensions the same when they are on their feet and when they are laying down?
Edit: had to watch to see that the video was of a bow kill and not from a 6mm. Arrows designed for large or dangerous game are going to penetrate a lot farther than a 6mm bullet...
An average male giraffe is about 2,400# and a really large male can approach 4,000#. Not sure what elk has to do with that, unless you are talking about putting a few elk side by side like milk jugs to see how many a .243 will pass through?
On a giraffe which can be 3.5 feet across the chest...
That'll get you half-way through an animal that can approach 4 feet wide across the chest. How do you think a 6mm bullet that weighs ~25% less will fare?
The issue is the bullet has to get to the heart and lungs to do damage. I get the sense that some don’t understand their size and composition, which is why many African PH’s suggest the .375 H&H as a sensible minimum.
I’ve killed ~70 animals over my 30 year bowhunting career with a broadhead brand (Vortex) that uses an o-ring and they are a very reliable blade actuation system.
I’ve also used MBH’s that use friction (NAP Spitfire and Evolution). They didn’t work any better, and frankly having a blade...
