Brother, if you're hunting cutovers, you need to be listening to the Southern Outdoorsman Podcast. Sounds to me like you have a big buck's core area located, and I wouldn't just walk away from it. There's subtlety to hunting spots like this. And just cause you're 50-75 yards away from the thick...
A couple thoughts on sleep systems in general:
1. RE. pads... you can always open a bag up if you're too hot, but you can't magically conjure up extra R rating when you're cold.
2. when rating down fill bags, always go by the ounce of down. It will take more ounces of 650 fill down to achieve...
I know a guy that has killed several hogs and whitetail with a rage (believe they were the hypo) out of a recurve...He doesn't advertise it, cause he gets a ton of crap for it, but he also hasn't had it fail miserably or anything.
A man has to know his limits. If it helps, my limit is 2-3 miles solo... Elk are huge. As mentioned above, if you're cutting one up solo on a steep slope, it's a 3-4 hour back breaker before you're even ready to start moving meat.
Can't say it was the "right" decision, but I've just staged the quarters a ways off from guts and hung them just over a branch at chest height to help them cool. Meat spoilage was my bigger concern and I wanted to hurry up and get the front and hind quarter in my pack back to the truck. My...
This doesn't have anything to do with the Kuiu question that was asked.
Back to the original question, I can't answer to the 97, but I love the 200. Unlike @Smallie I find it fits me super well, and is kind of like a 12 gauge.... it just works for a ton of situations. I'm guessing the 97 is...
Just finished nock tuning my broadheads for the longbow. Season starts end of September for me. Otherwise this woulda been done a month ago. Time to finish tuning the new string on my compound and shoot that out a little further to figure out my final MER.
Looks like you're all dialed in there Mr. Legend! That's a groovy arrow count too!
True story, I had to warranty my Rinehart 18-1 last year. Wore it out in 11 months with nothing but a trad bow and high volume.
A couple thoughts/questions from another tall guy.
1. Tree stands that are effective at carrying around and putting in almost any tree, are not as comfortable.
2. You don't *just* sit all day. You stand and shake the aches out when it gets bad
3. How are you climbing your trees?
4. The XOP...
I've been trying in vain to kill a deer from a tree for years now. All the whitetail I've killed with my longbow or recurve have been from the ground. I disagree that leafy suits are useless... the ASAT Leafy suit works. ASAT camo is legit, and I have some great stories about deer walking...
Holy frickin crap... some guys are hunting armor plated elephants I think.
OP. You're shooting a compound, so this is simple.
1. Get arrows spined and cut on the upper end of the recommended zone for your draw/poundage. Black eagle and easton have free charts
2. put any 3/4 blade fixed 125 gr...
