Great shot! It sure is funny how anxious we get till we find the critter.
Do the deer ever get weird about that ghost blind? I love the concept, but have heard mixed reviews.
Actually... Having read the article, this is better than I thought. They're trying to keep it from becoming a cash cow for ranchers by prohibiting resale, but allowing gifting of tags. And making it cow only will reduce the temptation for shenanigans as well.
I agree that blasting the guys employers is ridiculous. And while I love a good meme thread, I think we're on the wrong side of the "policing ourselves/cancel culture" line here.
I shot a mule deer buck at ~530 yards when I was in college... with a pre '64 model 70 in 30-06, with a 3x9 bushnel...
Veeery tangentially related, but I had a girlfriend once who was learning how to hunt. She shot a buck in the spine, and we hurried over to finish him off. She insisted she be the one to do it and capped that yearling in the noggin with an 06... woulda taken years in the relationship to learn so...
Yeah, you're just hunting a hard spot, at a hard time. The snow will help a ton. Get behind the glass and pick apart any edges and thinner timber pockets 2/3 of the way up from the bottom. And get 5 miles back! Nothing like leaving the truck at 3AM in a snow storm for hunting mule deer!
They do a number on critters. I went away from them because the temper is too soft for my liking... they dull just sitting in the quiver foam, and I got tired of touching them up every third hunt day.
This is spot on! I usually shoot trad, but I set up a compound this season due to life circumstances. It is amazing how much better I can hold on target with just a couple twists in the cables or strings to fuzz that draw length to perfection.
I love my Kowa 773. My philosophy on the nearly alpha glass is to buy one sight unseen, without trying anything else. It's gonna be awesome, and I won't know what I'm missing.
The Kowa checked all the boxes for me on weight, clarity, and discount from Swaro.
I just strap my xop to the frame and buckle the guide lid over the top. Had to get creative on attaching stuff, but it doubles as a ground seat if I need to sit somewhere without trees (guide lid not in photo).
