Late season is not the time that I find myself wanting lighter or more flexible boots. That said, Scarpa and La Sportiva have some offerings that are catering more to winter climbers. Something like an approach shoe is probably more what you'd want in terms of flex.
I carry a small game blunt when I'm hunting with trad. But with a compound I can't imagine having an arrow survive most grouse shots. I suppose you could build an 800 grain arrow that would be slow enough for sniping grouse without shattering?
Looks like we're at 70+ shooters already! Everyone hurry up and fill it so we can get to the dadgum prize drawings! I am SOOOOO ready to be disappointed yet again!
Well dang... I went 6/6! Now I'm gonna be left wondering what would happen on days 4-5 lol!
I have definitely made a jump in my longbow skills this spring (pushed MER from 20 to 30 yards). I was pretty sure that was the case, but this challenge was another confirmation. I'm shooting through...

Oh yeaaahhhhh.... that felt nice. Trad bow skill seems to have jumped a bit from prior years. I could go down a long rabbit hole talking about what changed, but I'm just gonna brag a bit today so I feel extra pressure to nail number 3 tomorrow!
And we're off! Just want to comment that compounds are stupid... I made a really solid (for me) first shot in 4.5 months at 45 frickin yards. I bust my butt 365 days a year to try and keep my trad MER north of 20!

First arrow from the compound since I had a buck matrix my arrow in January. That was at 45 yards, so we're going with...
Lots of good input, but I will push back on the Magnus stingers. They're nice, but the ferrule is weak. The Magnus Black Hornet is much tougher. I've shot one into stone on accident and the tip curled but the ferrule didn't snap like I've experienced with the stingers.
I'm a trad guy as well...
Salvaged some chunks of another old rinehart and plugged the basketball sized hole in the middle of my 18-1, then duct taped the crap out of it. Oughta hold up for a few cold shots while I try to sell some broadheads to buy a new target (shameless plug to go buy the IW wide 200 grain heads I...
There's tons of good arrows out there. I prefer carbon and 5mm shafts if I can get them in 33-34" length. however I've been using the Easton Carbon Legacy shafts for a couple years now. Had good success with the Black Eagle Renegades before that. I don't think you can really go wrong. Just pick...
Six of the 200 grain wide cut double bevel heads FS. All have been shot into foam. One went through a hog without damage. Just tore them down and checked for corrosion, polished and sharpened them. Hard case included.
Took pictures of both sides of all heads, and including a closeup of a...
Shoot, my current trad bow is set up with 500 grain arrows (50lbs @32"). I'd shoot it at an elk any day of the week with a sharp fixed blade.
Get your arrow tuned. I mean REALLY tuned. If it hits straight, it almost doesn't matter with the energy compounds put out. You might not want to put a...
I'm going to go against the grain here a bit... if you are hunting an area that you already know mule deer frequent and have had lots of still hunting encounters, you will most likely be hunting a different group of bucks than anyone else. They probably aren't getting as much human pressure. And...
