Western hunting is whole new game. I lived back east for many complaining about the walk to the deer stand and just sitting there. It's extremely boring.
Then I had the opportunity to move to Colorado in 09' and have enjoyed the hunting and the mountains ever since.
All you have to do is...
Do you drive up US 287? That's a crappy drive with no scenery, I feel for you.
There was a thread on here about someone dropping off a buddy at the airport, only to come back to an empty parking space. Truck, trailer, and all of the gear was gone.
I think I would rather make the 10 to 12 hour...
Welcome to Rokslide ! I spent @10 years in C-ville and another dozen in Louisville. Now I live in the great state of Colorado. Be careful when you come out west to hunt, you may not go back!

I hunted around that elevation the past few years. You can almost be assured that night time temps are below freezing and day time temps can be as high as 80. Your best bet is to to bring all suitable layers for that temp range and depending on what the forecast looks like, finish loading your...
I picked up one of these a few years ago for the same reason. When there isn't anymore gas, a lot of people are going to be SOL. I've spent a fair deal of time learning how to sharpen it as well.

Thank you for the PM Liv2Hnt, PM sent back.
Jon "The Juice" has graciously offered to send his SPOT to me. Now my wife will rest easy at night, knowing that I am safe. It is still hard to believe that there are so many great people in this community. Thank you everyone that has responded with...
I'm leaving on Saturday morning. The closer it gets time for me to leave, the more my wife is worrying. Not sure I could get your payment there in time to ship it out and be here on Friday.
Any one in know where I could rent a SPOT messenger locally in NoCO? I would rather not put that much money into the year contract for a couple weeks of use.
Thanks,
~JM~
Here is a different way to lace your boots to keep your feet from slipping in your boot. I have been using a variation of this lace and tie for almost 2 years. The only thing I do different is the knot. Instead of loop, swoop, and pull it turns into loop, swoop, swoop and pull. You wrap the loop...
Apparently I'm in the minority, or just cheap. I still use various sizes of zip lock bags for everything except food. I hang my food bag. I roll all my clothes, it makes for a smaller size and still fits in zip lock.
I smoked when I moved to Colorado, I subsequently quit. Health reason, family, and the shear fact it is hard to walk and breathe at the same time here if you smoke. If you really want to see what your elk hunt is going to look like. Walk him up at least 3 flights of stairs, briskly, then watch...
Use both. Post everything in one forum and have a script separate them into there own individual forum based on key words. I will browse and see things I want. I however rarely look for a specific object. This will appease all involved!! WIN, WIN
