I would recommend trying to hunt deer around home for a year or two before heading out west for elk. You can practice and practice and get good at hitting targets but shooting an animal is different. Better to get this kinks worked out on a deer than mess up on a big bull out west IMO.
In my business, we have seen our vendors who usually have an annual price increase of 2-5% have had 5-7% price increases every quarter for a year now. Everything in my warehouse has increased at least 25% over the last 12 months. You couple this insane inflation and the supply chain issues and...
Also from Virginia. I have driven and flown but I prefer to drive despite the fact that it is 30 hours from my house. Sure you can take more gear but it is the ability to bring meat home that is the real savings for our group. If 2 of 4 of us kill then we can bring the meat home with us in...
I have both pieces and the Traverse is quite a bit heavier and a little warmer. Like Shadedown said above the 280 is full zip. I use the Traverse as an outer layer as it is pretty bulky.
I got a Kenai jacket for Christmas and really like it. It is extremely lightweight and comfortable but also warm. I like it so much that I may pick up another in a solid color for wearing every day.
Have you checked out the Kuiu Kenai jacket? I have the Super Down Pro but like the Kenai better. It's hard to understand how something so lightweight could be so warm.
I have the Furnace and it is my single most favorite piece of hunting clothing that I own. I used to wear a heavy grid fleece as my mid-layer but the Furnace is much warmer. I use it out west on cool mornings in Sept elk hunting, during whitetail season at home and everything in between. I wear...
I wish they would change this law. I have a farm in an adjoining county to where the elk are located and there are no laws protecting the elk should they move out of the three county area. There are elk about 50 miles from our place and it would be awesome to see an elk one day on my land. But...
I have the Tiburon pants and love them. Like all Kuiu products, they are extremely comfortable. With the zips you can open them up and it really helps keep you cool while hiking. They are worth every penny.
I got a new Kenai for Christmas and have used it on a few duck hunts over the last two weeks and have been very impressed. I have used it as a mid-layer under a Banded wader jacket with a FL Furnace underneath both and it is incredibly warm and lightweight. I love how it is not bulky and does...
I am a huge fan of fleece and have everything from microfleece to heavyweight tops from several manufacturers. I wear fleece just about every day for work and play from mid-fall through spring. But when I am outside and it is cold I always wear my Furnace top as my mid-layer. It is a little...
I have both knives and like the Outdoor Edge better as it is easier to switch out the blades. After using several different types of knives over many years, I love these knives and they are inexpensive too.
