I almost always have worn a layer or two of fleece and still do. But I bought a FL Furnace last year and it is my go to mid layer for cold days. Most of my hunting is stationary and the Furnace is the warmest piece for the weight and bulk that I own. I wear it on cold mornings sitting over water...
FL Furnace top. It is the warmest for the weight piece that I own. I use it as a mid-layer starting in Sept for archery elk hunting on cold mornings sitting over water holes. I wear it on cold days while sitting in a tree stand at home and it is perfect for duck hunting as well. By far my...
I agree. I would suggest researching and scouting new areas. Once you find the deer sit tight and hunt over a food source or a travel corridor. 9 miles a day is a lot for wide open western hunting where you are trying to cover a lot of ground and glassing hundreds of acres at a time.
Anyone have any experience with Montana Hunting Company? I am trying to book a mule deer hunt for 2022 for my son and myself. I have never booked a hunt with an outfitter so I am really hoping to find some input. This would be a mid-Nov rifle hunt.
I archery elk hunt each year in CO and my 14...
I bought some Kuiu gear for elk hunting and love it. I live in Virginia and wear it all the time during bow season. It is the most comfortable clothing that I own. I have the attack and tiburon pants and both are awesome. The Tiburons are excellent for warm season as they are extremely...
The attack pants are the most comfortable pants that I own. I highly recommend them. I don't think you will find a better all around pair of hunting pants anywhere.
I prefer hunting elk with a bow. I also come from the SE and it is so nice to leave the 90* weather at home with high humidity and go out west where it is perfect weather in Sept. I would recommend booking with someone who hunts private land and has exclusive access to thousands of acres. If you...
IMO, this is a Ford vs Chevy argument. I have some Sitka, FL and Kuiu. My favorite piece that I own is the FL Furnace merino wool top. It is the warmest garment per weight that I own. I wear it on cool mornings out west chasing elk and at home while hunting whitetails. Oh yeah and I always wear...
I would roll with the 257. I have one myself and it is a killing machine. As a bowhunter, I always LOL when I hear some people say you need the biggest gun available to kill elk. I have not killed nearly as many as most on here but I have killed four bulls with my bow and luckily I have made...
I get to my spot about 30 minutes before first light and hunt to about 9:30. Most of the time in the mornings I see the most activity about an hour after daylight. In the evenings I usually sit from 4 til dark. From my experience, they come to water a little more consistently in the afternoons.
It works well in the early part of the season. Not sure how well it works during the peak of the rut as we hunt the first part of the season. And I'm sure it works best in areas where there are limited water sources available in the area. It seems as most of the time the elk come in...
We sit water quite a bit. It can be effective morning and evening but if I had to pick just one it would be evenings. Usually the thermals are pretty consistent so we always sit down wind of the wallow. No calling. You want the bull to just come in naturally and not be looking for more elk...
Heard bugling each of the first 5 days in NW CO. Some days more than others. Some days more in the mornings and other days more in the evenings. It seemed as though they would get pretty fired up in one drainage and be pretty quiet in adjacent areas. They were vocal in pockets but certainly not...
I am sure it is not all the same in every place but I hunt an area where the elk and cattle pretty much live together. I have seen a herd of elk come out of the woods and feed right with cows and I have seen them water together too. Cows don't seem to bother the elk in the slightest. I see cows...
I would go to Cabela's and stick with their brand or another mid lever brand especially if you are just starting out. For treestand hunting, you certainly don't need a full Kuiu kit nor to spend a grand on hunting clothes hunting in the relatively mild SE.
