    Vortex scopes on 338’s

I agree with you about the need to stop buying scopes at any price point which don’t work and driving the manufacturer’s to start providing quality and consistent products. Unfortunately I think they will get away with it for ever considering the fraction of folks who actually put them to the...

    Vortex scopes on 338’s

Unfortunately no, I was not able to. Condensation made its way internally and froze on the inside of the glass. Completely useless. I was sent a complete new unit from the manufacturer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Vortex scopes on 338’s

The majority of aiming devices out there don’t stay aimed when you really put them to use. $450 is a steal for something that works for someone and has their guarantee to fix it. I had a catastrophic failure of a very established brand known for both higher quality and price than Vortex. The...

    Electronic ear plugs

Just a heads up for those of you who run ear pro, anything is most certainly better than nothing while out hunting with a break, but any other time I’m shooting I double up with ear plugs and the over the ear Muff style. Doing the research shows even at full listed value, neither one single...

    Vortex scopes on 338’s

Have you tried sending it in to be corrected? I’ve had good luck with the Razor line holding up to heavy recoil but don’t use them for hunting due to weight.

Minimalists--What clothes central ID, mid Oct.

It can be tough to say. Last year mid to late Oct was unusually warm where I was in the Frank Church with daytime temps reaching mid 70’s a few times. More commonly the high has been in the 60’s and down to the 20’s and occasionally teens at night. I hunt 5,000-10,000’ and generally experience...

    Rifle mounted to tripod

This guy seems to have his system down with good practice. I think there are some better options for attaching, but worth the watch.

    FNG CA Sierras

I figured it’s time to socialize and stop being a creep on here. This place has such an amazing amount of knowledge to share. Looking forward to heading back to Idaho in a few weeks and wearing down the tread on these boots. Happy hunting!

    Your perfect elk rifle

Mesa precision 300 win mag sending 215 grain Berger hybrids for long work. My backup /beater or for short distance is a flimsy pre-accustock savage 111 in 30-06 with an upgraded trigger. That savage is the cheapest gun I’ve ever bought at $125 off of a buddy years ago but it’s harvested more...

What's your worst mid-hunt equipment failure?

Last year I put a significant amount of effort to close in on a very respectable bull. It was a sure thing until I shouldered my rifle and couldn’t tell the difference between the scorched trees, dead grass, and snow Everything through the scope was a complete blur. My new scope had a failure...

    New Hunter in Idaho

Lots of good advice given so far. It sounds like you are on the right track by taking the initiative to learn. There is no substitute for sweat equity. Get out there, be patient and persistent. Spend the next off season learning their habits. Research what they eat, where they feel comfortable...
