Long shot: Knoxville Cali Wildlife Area

I'll second the "lots of quail," aspect. Went out last weekend before archery closed and busted covey on covey on covey of birds. Not 5-10 either, but 20-50 birds at a time.

I did! Same here in CA, plenty of bears out there. Most are taken like yours, guys deer hunting and get an opportunity on a big boi!

    Opinions on NorCal Wilderness Area's

People pull bucks out of those areas consistently every year. I hunted the Trinities my first year out and spent a few days in a particular drainage. Didn't see one deer but saw plenty of sign and pretty sure we had a bear in camp in the middle of the night. But, I was brand new and didn't...

    Sitka blacktail meat vs moose

Oddly enough the "coastal" vs. "other" blacktail (inland, B-Zone, Sierra, foothill, whatever you want to refer to it as) def makes a difference. IDK if its the moisture content on the coast as opposed to interior, but the buck I shot in 2020 (w/in eyesight of the ocean) had about two inches of...

    CA BLACKTAIL

Some of the most successful guys I know have infinitely more patience than me and sit, sit and sit. Like the post above, setting up on high traffic areas will get you more encounters

Hoping to get this back up and running for this season! Just moved up to El Dorado Hills temporarily. I have an AO tag this year and am hoping to pick up a bear tag too. Would LOVE a partner to schlep around the hills with during the week!

    Broadheads

I know this issue has been beaten to death, but if anyone on here has real world experience with the ones I'm going to be choosing from, I'd love to get some of their experiences with them. First about me, I'm a new bowhunter. I shoot a lefty Hoyt Torrex, 27" draw at 65lb and shoot a 27.5"...

    CA B Zone Trinity Alps

I hunted the north fork of coffee creek in '18, the last week of September. We packed in about 4 miles and ran into a pair of guys fishing/camping, but didn't see anyone else. We also didn't see any animals (bears, deer, mountain lions, etc). We did hear something walking through our camp in...

    California Hunters? Where you at?

Keeping this thread alive! Vacaville, went for my first deer hunt end of September in the trinities. Beautiful country. Saw 4 quail and a bunch of chipmunks and 0 deer. There were more deer laughing at us on the way in and out than on the mountain. I guess I should clarify I’m a total rookie...
