Parents, let's discuss the ethics of our kids' first kills...

I grew up shooting deer in South Texas over bait and feeders. My Dad and uncle explained the importance of managing deer herds and getting ethical shots and bait was the best way to do both. 7 years old shooting a .223 needed shots to be around 50 yards. First buck was a nasty basket rack 8...

    Alaska Airlines vs. United

Flew to Fairbanks in May with a sidearm in my bow case and connected in Seattle. Had flights get canceled and rescheduled to go through Anchorage and thought forsure something would go missing in the end. Surprised when everything showed up in Fairbanks. Flying home was a breeze they are...

Was leaving the hunt worth it?

No way I would have left with elk bugling all around me. I've eaten granola bars and trailmix for a week and would have killed for Ramen to eat. I would have negotiated price on food for the week and gone out and killed an elk so I could eat backstrap.

    Waterfowl Guides Salt Lake City

Looking for any recommendations for waterfowl guides out in Salt Lake City, UT. I will be out there for work for a week and want to sneak in a hunt on the big lake one day. Googling guide services I haven't found anyone that seems to be in business still. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Want to try Backcountry hunting. I live in Illinois and have no clue where to start

Start out backcountry camping for weekend trips to test your mental strength and gear out. Shawnee NF in southern Illinois is a good option to start and it has some elevation changes. Other options in the Midwest are the Boundary Waters and numerous national forests in Michigan. It’s not for...

How many people have been transitioning their hunting?

Jumped back into waterfowl pretty big after buying property in another state. Forgot how much I loved it and it extends my hunting season several months. I can chase birds in the Midwest from October until December then go south and follow the migration and hunt ducks through the end of January...

    How many boxes of shells...?

I like to have 3 cases of 12 gauge and 2 cases of 20 gauge for waterfowl. Last year I cut it close and then was scrambling for ammo right before out of state trips so I want to avoid that scenario again. For upland mostly pheasants I can get by with just a handful of boxes laying around as I...

Distance to 'Get Away Cabin' or Property?

Mine is 3.5-4 hours and that’s probably the max I would do for a weekend trip. I can leave after work on Friday and still get there at a reasonable time. Spend an average of 2 weekends a month up there and almost every weekend during hunting season. You do get used to the drive eventually and it...

    The Rokslide Stock Traders Thread

I am new at it and a terrible options trader. Pretty much just gambling because I don’t know what to look at for example reading charts, RSI, etc. Any pointers to help me from throwing money away every time I buy an option? Got my feet wet on buying calls on CDEV longer term and have always...

Where did it start for you?

My Dad potty trained me walking pheasants fields by cutting leg holes and a spot for my head in the game pouch of his vest. Shot my first Bobwhite quail off a sendero in Texas at age 5. Was a menace on squirrels and chipmunks with a BB gun. Shot my first hogs, javelinas and first buck by age 9...

    Peloton?

I’ve had the opposite experience with the 240 I think it is great with wind resistance. It’s noticeably better at bucking the wind than my softshell and I wear it riding the ATV all the time as an outer layer. Also wear it as an outer layer in a treestand until it gets down below 45 degrees. The...

    In-Ear Hearing Protection

I used the Axils on several duck hunts this year and they do a pretty good job at noise cancellation when put in the ear correctly. When it was windy I did not like them and it also canceled out noise whenever I was calling which I did not like. Found myself wearing them less as the season went...

    Snows and Blues

Just got back from Thurman, Iowa about 10 days ago. We were a tad early but still had a good hunt. Tons of birds moving but not a lot of juvies yet migration was just starting
