    What 270 round for elk

I might try 136 grain federal terminal ascent. I have not taken an animal with these bullets yet but my .270 and 7mm rm love these for accuracy.

    Knife. What do you carry?

I carry a BM altitude 2 in my kill kit. I may or may not carry a Grip in my pocket. When whitetail hunting I usually have an M4 BM Contego in my pocket. Large and tough blade can handle the manicuring of lanes if needed.

Any of you guys hammock camp?

I use WBBB double layer. Hammock system weighs more than a good ground system. Hammock system is invaluable if you are in an area with no flat ground. Hammock system is useless in J&P. I use a WB Yeti 3/4 underquilt paired with a thinlight foam pad between the hammock layers. I put my glassing...

Goosefeet Gear down bacalava is available for those who need head warmth. I use one when it gets below 20F. They also make down sleeping booties but I have not tried those.

Anyone like quilts but not in cold weather?

I find quilt width makes a huge difference. I turn several times during the night and I find my narrow quilt (48 inches) lets in drafts when I roll and it takes forever to warm up after a draft gets in. I do not have this problem when it is used in a hammock system with under-quilt. I am moving...

    Beginner Solo Shelter System

If you are looking to stay mobile and take full advantage of the late hunt, you might not even start looking for camping spot until after dark. Would a side arm be necessary? Also what caliber?

I do not carry a side arm hunting, fishing or hiking in any state. I used to carry a wheel gun in griz territory but now only spray. I carry neither in Colorado. Caliber big enough to stop a grizzly is too heavy to be carrying all the time. If I did feel the need to carry it would be a revolver...

    Gps vs iPhone with onX

I leave the GPS at home now and go with OnX and an inreach mini. I used to carry the GPS just to save the tracks but inReach mni saves 10 minute tracks to the Garmin cloud. Tracks are very valuable to me when I am scouting for the next year
