I bought the 10x50's for the extended eye relief because I wear glasses, but they are bulkier and heavier. Diamondbacks are great truck binoculars, but not for extended periods of glassing imho.
I have tested many sets of Diamondbacks in various powers and only a few Crossfires. I don't consider Crossfires even usable. Diamondbacks, however, are great binoculars for the money. The HD's are a little better than the classics, but not by much. In my experience, eastern hunting doesn't...
I dare say more game has been taken utilizing a Leupold scope than any other brand. Nothing holds value any better, and for good reason. Many, if not most, drop issues are likely caused by the mount/rings and not the scope.
While they retail well above the 1K mark, UHD'S can be bought used or refurbished for around 1K. I sell optics and make alot of comparisons. Optically, I believe UHD'S are ranked close to the finest on the market.
The only scientific drop test I ever did was the unintentional hard fall of my rifle on a huge rock while crossing a river in southwest Virginia in 1979. The Redfield 3x9 definitely failed (as would most scopes). I sent it back to Denver and they repaired it for the standard $25 fee. I used it...
Those of us who have been using USA made Leupolds for 40+ years don't need to be told about their reliability, because we already know. With that in mind, I wouldn't mount a modern Leupold on any of my rifles.
As a footnote, I have used traditional non glass bedded wood stocked rifles for 50...
I agree. At that level, you would need a side by side comparison to tell a difference and even then, you won't see much difference. There's alot a brand bias at these levels as well. As a musician and musical instrument trader for years, I learned to base my evaluative opinions on sound...
Vortex Razor HD's and Zeiss Conquest HD's in the $700-800 range are a great value. Both have outstanding optics. Vortex has come a long way. They are building some of the most advanced small arms optics in the world for the US Millitary. These optics are USA made (required by government...
I cannot imagine why one would need such a reticle or turrets for mountain bear hunting with a 35 Whelen. I am of the opinion there is way too much emphasis on dialing and reticles on this forum. Study ballistics and point blank ranges and you will be fine. I have big game hunted for almost...
If you have good quality binos with 42mm objectives, there's no need for 50mm in my opinion. I have spent alot of time testing binoculars and scopes over the years and glass quality is the most important factor. All things being equal, the 50mm only provides a slight advantage for the last few...
I have used 150gr Interlocks in my 30-06's since the 70's with no complaints at all. Accuracy and terminal ballisitics are excellent. I think the part number is 3031.
Vortex Razor HD binoculars are an outstanding value in $600-700 range. I have compared them to several Zeiss, Swarovski, and other Vortex models, but not Leupold.
There are several generations of SLC'S and the latest HD would likely be comparable in image quality. One major advantage to the SFL is the compact size. I think they are also 4-5 ounces lighter. You really should compare them yourself. Both are outstanding.
