I just sold mine, thought it was a good idea. The biggest issue is after set up, if you want to go anyway you have to tear it back down. So if you plan to camp in the same location for several days, you're either stuck or prepare to repeatedly set up and tear down. We now use a Cabelas guide...
I disagree, Alaska should be your last option. It's a horrible place to live. The mountains suck, people everywhere, no public land, hunting blows, salmon are all gone. 😎
Same thing happened to me here in Alaska. Wanted to order a new Ram, zero interest shown while at multiple dealers. Isn't their job to "sell" vehicles? Got the feeling they were too confident I wouldn't buy from someone else. I now own a '21 GMC Sierra 3.0 Duramax.
Where I hunt moose a 6x6 is needed. I made it in the first year with a Yamaha Kodiak 700, but coming out with a heavy meat wagon I was constantly winching and had to borderline abuse the machine to get out. It's a necessity for me, but I can also ride right from my house. It's used all year...
Possibly improper fit and adjustment of the pack, weight is riding too much on your shoulders and not enough on your hips. Mostly though, it's probably just a shock to the body.
If you want comparable options it comes very close. Snugtop Rebel with the sportsman's package that has the reinforced roof, windoors, roof rails, etc., I was quoted $3400. RSI is $3895. Hardly half the price. If you get the most basic fiberglass cap, maybe.
I haul weight on the roof over...
Front Runner Slimline II. They were great to work with, really helped in determining the best set up for what I was trying to do. Will re-use this rack on the next RSI.
Price really isn't that much different, I've had a few of the quality fiberglass caps and one RSI. RSI is superior in my opinion. I was running a full length rack system with a RTT. Camped all over Alaska last summer, thoroughly enjoyed it. Truck ended up being a POS and returned to Ford...
