I just had a properly torqued base come loose without loctite.
Fortunately, I caught it before thread damage was done and the gun needed Smith work.
I won't install without loctite and proper torque
I mix Liquid IV half strength. 1 tube to a nalgene. Adds enough flavor to keep me pouring water in which is what I really want it for anyway.
The added stuff is a bonus
This is close to what I do. I don't like in thw wide open west, but I could live in my truck for a day if needed.
Might be a rough night if it's super cold, but I'll live.
I've run tens of thousands of rounds through my old Wingmaster. It has worked without a problem.
When my son turned 13, I bought him an 870. It is the one that malfunctioned twice. He stopped hunting, so I use his when I want a 3" chamber as my old gun is 2 3/4" only. The action feels...
I've only ever had 2 firearms fail on me in any real way.
Way back when I was a kid, my Win 94 double fed or something and jammed up tight.
I've also had multiple issues with one of my 870s. Technically my son's but he doesn't hunt so I use it when I want a magnum. One day, when running...
Thanks, all.
These answers make sense.
Time moves on, optics improve.
Not that my old Leopold or Redfield scopes won't work, but a newer scope with better glass is simple better
This is pretty much what I thought.
In my case, I cycled through a bunch. I started with cheap "Walmart" grade packs, using them for training.
Moved to a Milsurp ruck to a Badlands pack. None of them worked. Something was either failing on the pack like the buckles on the Badlands pack that suck or zips and squeaks on the...
I grabbed this single line out of a different topic so that I don't entirely hijack that discussion with my question.
What IS the useful life span of an optic?
How do YOU determine when your optic has reached end of life?
Most of my hunting rifles have scopes mounted that are almost as...
I'm already taking steps to implement the advice I've been given in this thread.
I definitely feel the time thing. I laid my bow down around the time I got married because kids came soon after and, well, kids and wives and homes and being a young husband and a young tradesman building a...
I have so many things that I want to say, but I'll limit them to "Good for you. Your comment isn't helpful. Have a nice day"
I had more bucks in front of me this year than ever before. More bucks than does in fact. Only 2 were legal bucks and only the one presented a viable shot...
So, objectively, I'm not very good at hunting. Saying that "I suck" is a shorthand way to express that. I can't say I'm great at it. I can't even say I'm mediocre.
Skipping steps. I think that, in an after action analysis, that is what really hurt me this past season. On setting a...
I want to specifically address the range issue.
I just duplicated the shot. I shot 27 yards, verified with the same rangefinder with my 20 yard sight mark.
The arrow impacted 7" below point of aim.
I am not offended by anything said in this conversation. I am trying to take everything...
I've been working on the Shot IQ program.
Yeah, it's chaotic and stressful. That's why I try to stick with short, simple and concise thoughts/commands.
Speaking to the rest of this.
I do that and I'm pretty good at it. I could, while running the described drills, hit a deer in the vitals consistently at 40.
I would argue that it's also a fairly accurate self assessment.
I spend late winter, spring and summer scouting and running cameras along with practicing with my chosen weapons to MAYBE get a single opportunity. When you take my history and that and stand that next to guys who are passing on...
