Then, like everyone else says, good outer wear and base layers. Puffy, rain/wind outer wear and base layers would be next on my list. You don't need anything overly expensive in.this department. I do try to get name brand outerwear, whether Sitka, Pnuma, Kuiu or others on sale.
Gaia GPS maps offers cheaper prices, private land, all states, hunting and weather layers and more. You don't get hunting stats, which is fine since I don't want onX collecting information on where I hunt.
I won't say a down pour like Washington, Oregon and Alaska get but I have had it in drizzle and light to medium rain, and it did not leak at the back of the neck/hood. I have found that to be a weak spot for most rain jackets.
It is a generous fit. I went with a medium for better layering...
I have the Selkirk jacket and love it. It has held up well over 3 seasons. I use it as specific conditions require - cold, windy or occasional wet. I don't use it as a dedicated rain jacket since I have rain gear, but I have used it it for wet snow, late season, cold windy conditions and in...
Great conversation. However, either way it is a difficult and traumatic way to say goodbye to a friend. I have done both and both are burned in my memory. One time, the Vet refused to let me be present. My dog knew as she was led away to the back room, giving me that look over her shoulders...
You know, there are probably Elk, Deer and Sheep that die of old age that no man has seen despite our advances in technology. The ability of an animal to hide from man, much less an intelligent being, is not too far fetched. I have never seen one and only personally know one person that has.
I grew up in Wyoming and wish I could have stayed. But you are right. My son went a few years with hearing loss due to an undiagnosed brain tumor. Wyoming doctors continually said he was within normal hearing limits and just needed to stop listening to loud music - ironically, doctors could...
That is a shitty deal. I have sold and bought a few things on Rokslide with good luck. It sucks we get these kind of people taking advantage of others.
Who carries an led work light or rope light to light up the surrounding area for butchering at night? I have always just used my head lamp but started thinking it might be nice to light up the general area. The ones I have seen are luminoodle and lastlight. Not sure that the limited utility...
Might also want to check out the Colorado School of Trades Gun Smithing School in Wheatridge - it is not S Denver but prices are reasonable and you are helping future gun smiths.
All good tips. I will add that you definitely have to put the miles in to find elk. E-scouting might tell you generally about the topography but there are often hidden rolls, folds, ravines, holes and basins you don't see until you are in the woods. I have found mature bulls in odd places...
