Really not trying to poke the bear just want to clarify. I gave wildly different elevation and temp swings. I am aware that those conditions you posted are very capable. Especially 3k ft @ 20 deg in the plains and central us.
Let's take your example: but instead of setting a turret up at either...
No offense. But different strokes for different folks. I will agree that it takes a lot of practice to stretch cartridges out to 1,000 yards. But 90% of people aren't or shouldn't take shots past 6-700 yards. and I hate to say, it's not THAT hard to be competent at that range.
Decent wind...
I was curious about this so I through some stuff in my hornady calculator for 6.5 creedmoor with a 140gr Berger. In NM the lowest I've ever been in elevation was 3,200ft on a September antelope hunt at 100 degrees, 70% humidity. 600 yards = 12.61 MOA elevation.
I then went on and put in 10,000ft...
MDT Sporting Goods on youtube has been posting a ton of random 5-10min videos that cover the foundations. there is one where the CEO does a match, but goes through some training first that cover the mindset.
But then Ryan Mclean has a very indepth video setting up a guy on a barricade. this...
Looking for some advice on a new pack for rifle season. I use to carry the eblerstock gunrunner but I've outgrown it with the addition of a bigger spotting scope and tripod. I am not a backpacker, but I do haul meat. the gunrunner did okay for antelope and deer but it never could handle an elk...
My savage doesn't like the vmax's with anything near max load. Flip flopped for the noslers. And my FT groups the best when pressure signs begin to show..
Typically twist rates only make a difference on heavier bullets. Berger has a stabilizing calculator that can help with your setup directly. Stabilizing can be affected by bullet BC and even elevation (atmosphere).
But as a reference, I have a 22-250 with a 8 twist, and it shoots everything...
For me, it's just a mental checklist, and confidence when you break the trigger. There's a couple videos online about the psychology of successful shooting. Things like you never actually have to break the trigger unless you have 100% confidence that everything is accounted for.its interesting...
I went the ruger precision 22lr route. Comes in at 9lbs with a 4-12x40 on it. It's a blast for target and has been hammering the ground squirrels in the orchard for the past year. Farthest poke on a squirrel was 175 yards.
100% agree. its not at the top. but it should definitely be something to consider. you need a foundation to start on.
Decent clothing system to keep you comfortable, good boots to keep you going, a rifle and optic to 100% get the job done when its time to do your part.. but when it boils down...
Man am I the only one that see's the usefulness in having more power than necessary?
Everyone always says you dont need more than a 3-9 scope to hunt everything under 700 yards, but my golden rule from archery was "aim small, miss small" why not have more power to see more?
Why not check out a...
VMR-1 (MOA) 2nd focal plane
Part Number: DBK-10025 One is off a muzzleloader that I no longer need thanks to NM changing scope laws, the other was on my ruger precision rimfire. the muzzleloader saw one hunt where it left the case twice. no scratches or dings on either.
I changed the price to...
My setup is 15's , 10's and a spotter 20-60. But I should have gone with a 15 spotter.
The 15s stay at the truck. And the 10s stay on my chest. The spotter goes in the backpack 50% of the time when I leave the truck.
15s are good, but having 20+ on those early mornings before mirage kills...
