I like the looks of the Iota stock. I've been comparing these to McM Gamehunters and they look like similar ergos. How beefy is the forearm? Too fat for comfortable off-hand shots?
Great build, btw.
My dad's Weatherby Mark V in 270 Wby, circa 1980s with the same year Swarovski 3-12x56. (It was the first year they offered the "fibermark" stock) Its accounted for a good many deer ang pigs over the years, my guess is 800 plus animals. He used it to kill a few culls last year so its still...
I've had great luck with the 140 and 160 Accubonds. Also, don't sleep on the 150 ballistic tip, they are pretty dang tough at moderate velocities.
My favorite is the 168 VLD.
I've got an 18" and a 22" that I hunt with a Tbac Ultra 7. I think 18-20" is about the ideal compromise, although I don't find the 22" to be overly annoying.
But trust me, any annoyance is far outweighed by the enjoyment of shooting suppressed! You'll never go back.
I never shot it unbedded, but the fit and finish was great on the inletting. I have another AG stock (Cat All Terrain) on another build that is unbedded and the rifle shoots great as is.
I've got an M50 and it is by far my favorite stock. It's got the perfect "hybrid" vertical/classic grip for my taste. Mine was the Gen 1 that AG composites actually made for Stocky's. I have no experience with the Gen 2 version that Stocky's makes in house, but they look identical.
I've got an 18" 6.5 CM, don't use factory, but I get the following speeds from handloads:
H4350 with 139 Scenar at 2700
RL26 with 140 BT at 2775
RL17 with 120 BT at 2915
RL17 with 130 AB at 2800
I've been using a .280 Ackley for 4-5 years now, its been a great rifle. I've had great success with Nosler 140 accubonds and 150 ballistic tips on deer and hogs. Last few years I've used the 168 VLD and 143 Hammer, with excellent results as well.
Mine is built on a stiller LA with a 22"...
I just built an 18" CM. Worked up a few hunting loads so far, very accurate too.
120 Ballistic tip, RL-17 at 2900 fps
140 Ballistic tip, RL-26 at 2750 fps
Seems to shine with these two RL powders. Really want to get my hands on some RL-16 as well.
For reference, I've got a good "range load"...
That is slick. Who’s stock?
Stocky Stocks "Euro Stock". Pretty decent "field grade" wood stock. It has an aluminum bedding block, seems to be plenty accurate so far. Had to open it up a tad for the barrel, it came inletted for a Rem sporter.
I did, pretty easy even if you have average mechanical skills, like me. Viper barrel vise, torqued it down to 75 lbs with the bighorn action wrench, checked headspace with Go and NoGo gauges and went shooting.
18" 6.5 CM
I just did a pre-fit build on a Bighorn. Got the barrel from Preferred Barrel Blanks. They offer threading, fluting, cerakote and what not.
Great prices and had it in 5 weeks. Shoots just as good as my other custom barrels (Bartlein, Brux, Rock, Proof).
I had a 6.5 build a while back that Accurate Ordnance did in their "spider monkey green", but I'm guessing its a home brew color. Looks good with several shades of brown and green though.
