Finally got my Stealth Project Recon direct thread .30 cal (now called bolt) out of jail after a 14 month wait for the BATF to approve my form 4. This is my first suppressor so I can’t make any direct comparisons to their competitors. After firing it on my 24” 6.5 Creedmoor and 20” .22 GT, what...
I can’t remember shooting any critters with them but my son shot a caribou with them. Dead Caribou, but didn’t seem as destructive as the 140gr Berger Elite Hunter was for me on the same hunt.

Great cartridge, but if factory ammo availability is a concern, wait on a Creedmoor. I had a 6.5x47 and loved it, but was going to AK for Caribou and wanted to be able to walk in a store and get factory ammo in case my hand loads got lost by the airlines, so I went with a Creedmoor.

Haven’t used a Maven, so can’t help you there, but have the Tract and it is simply fantastic. I have both the 27-55 zoom and the fixed 22x with the mil reticle. While the variable eyepiece is VERY nice, the fixed 22x stays on the scope 99% of the time. The view through that thing is absolutely...
Doesn’t really help you any with your requirements, but the reticle in the SWFA 1-6 HD works great at both low and high power. If you can live with 6x, it’s a great scope.

I’ve got a .219 bore, 7” twist barrel waiting to be chambered in .22GT. Supposedly more barrel life than the .22 Creedmoor without much of a reduction in performance.

I have no faith in 3 shot groups unless I shoot several of them and they all impact at the same POI. Three shots just isn’t a big enough sample size to be a good predictor of where the next shot is going. For those that don’t believe me, take your “1/2 MOA all day long” hunting rifle and shoot...
I have the Tract Torric Spotter and find it to be so good that I don’t have any interest in trying to “upgrade.” I have both the variable and the fixed 22x eyepiece and the image is breathtaking.

I do it pretty much the same way. I can’t remember the last time I got the chrono out. I make an educated guess on velocity based on load data. I use BCs Litz has derived, if available. If not, I use manufacturer’s BC. Get a good 100 yard zero then go right to my 900 yard target. I use the...
I also have the Thunderbeast and it is a really great bipod, but, like you, I’m thinking about leaving it in the truck on my next hunt. Fact is I cannot remember the last prone shot I took while hunting. Seems like grass, brush or whatever is just a little too high for prone most of the time...
Here’s a little perspective. Same BC, same velocity, much different recoil. On the left is the 6.5 Creedmoor shooting a 130gr AR Hybrid at 2900ish. On the right is the .30-338 Win Mag shooting the 185gr Hunting VLD at the same velocity. The Creedmoor is much easier to hit with, and putting...
Some folks wanted to see a pic of the reticle at 2.5x, so Ive included that.
After request from folks on Rokslide, I called Jon Allen and asked if he would allow me to hold on to the scope for a bit to conduct a Formidilosus style drop test. He agreed.
First part of the test was to establish...
Just got my tax stamp back (a hair over 14 months) and have a few questions in regards to hunting rifles set up for supressors.
1. Do you guys run a shorter barrel than without? My hunting rigs usually have a 24” barrel but I don’t think I want to add 7” to that length so am considering...
I just talked to Jon and he gave a big thumbs up to the Formidilosus style impact test so I will be following up with that in the future. I have a week of work, followed by vacation, followed by another week of work, so it may be a month or so…
This is a loaner scope.

When I talked to Jon about reviewing the scope I told him I would do impact resistance test based on events I have actually had happen to me, so that’s what I did. While I appreciate the effectiveness of the drop test Formidilosus does in his reviews, I did not tell Jon those are the test I...
