Great questions, unfortunately I don’t know. My hunting (Sierra Nevada mule deer and bear hunting mainly) doesn’t necessitate the really big spotting scopes. I run a 65mm spotter and the head is smooth as butter. I have not noticed a jumpy or notchy tilt or pan experience.
If you look closely, there is a knurled ring on each pivot point. Those can be tightened to the point where the joint is fairly solidly locked up. Whether you’re using a lot of friction, or a little, the head movement remains fluid and smooth (up to the point where the friction is basically...
She’s not light. 11lbs 3oz.
I had a Tipro 3 brake and lighter rings on it but I switched to the Hellfire brake and heavier rings.
I like the added weight in terms of shoot ability, I figure I can shed weight from the rest of my pack by getting lighter gear and streamlining my system.
I...
Posted this build a while back but I’ve changed some components.

When the tripod is strapped to my pack I don't see it anyway, and when the tripod is in use, the head just seems like an easy size to manipulate. I was also concerned about the size but what you gain in functionality more than makes up for the increased size and weight, in my opinion.
Just walked through the door last night after a bear hunt and the new Tricer DZ head was sitting here. Would have loved to have had it in the field this last week but a shipping problem kept that from happening. In any case, first impression is a very good one.
The head is significantly larger...
The Gunwerks Elevate 2.0 is Good. To. Go.
Easy off and on, locks up solid, can shoot as close to the ground as you would ever need to, and also shoot from a comfortable sitting position. I’m 100% happy with mine
The stand arrived today and I’m impressed with the construction and finish. Came with all necessary hardware to mount the press to the stand and also the bolts needed to mount the stand to the bench (which I haven’t done yet).
I’m pretty satisfied at this point.
Anyone else running this setup...
Just curious, but if you own seven other rifles, why do you need to buy or borrow one for your elk hunt?
As far as what happened with the rifle in question there is zero chance I would fire that rifle again until the manufacturer went through it. Zero.
Well I let the unit sit for a day or two and decided that I would log the temperatures the unit is reporting compared to two other thermometers (one is a kestrel and the other a digital thermometer/hygrometer).
These two units were consistently reporting temperatures within 2 degrees of each...
How accurate have the temperatures been with your BR4 units?
I just returned a unit because the temperature is reading anywhere from 10-20 degrees above ambient temperature.
I just received the replacement today and this one is doing the same thing.
The air temperature here is 66 degrees...
So as with most things hunting, there is not going to be a one-size-fits-all answer to this question.
The right setup for you will depend on how you intend to use the system. If your typical glassing session involves a short walk from your vehicle then you should get a tripod that's big and...
I think almost every hunter on here dreams about being in the position you're in. I don't even KNOW anyone who has killed a brown bear. So, if you're in a position to, and you wife is okay with it, a full mount of that bear will be a dominant display and spark conversations in more visitors than...
That's probably as light as I'd want to go with that cartridge. If you get much lighter than that, the shootability is probably going to decrease. I think I'd try to shave some weight from other stuff in my pack. I think I'd gladly trade a pound ON the rifle for a pound OUT of my pack.
