I'm originally from Iowa and would agree although I don't know what the population numbers are specifically. Visiting my folks over the holidays each year I'm astounded by the number of eagles perched up or in the fields over gut piles or road kill carcasses. I almost wonder if they are getting...
Sharing a few paragraphs I found interesting if others aren’t subscribers…
Across North America, bald eagle population growth rates are being suppressed by 3.8% because of lead exposure, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Science. Continentwide, golden eagles’ population...
I’d poke around the Garmin and/fenix subreddit on reddit. Not a reddit guy but ran across it when I was looking into the garmins. I’m not a power user but know enough to navigate and use it for exercise.
You need to check out YouTube videos or read the actual manual. Reddit Garmin or reddit fenix is also a good resource. VO2 max will take a bit to calibrate if you haven’t done many activities yet.
Assuming this is a fenix watch... go to menu (hold middle left button) > sensors and accessories > altimeter > calibrate.
You can also set it up so the altimeter auto calibrates during an activity (e.g. running or hiking).
Not one for social media but does anyone know if meateater and/or Steven have responded to Matt's posts?
I feel like they might be in on an ultimate joke but he's also cutting pretty direct with some of this...
Agreed. I'm sure they've been having these conversations for awhile now - I don't listen to meateater often but do think Steve has mentioned his brother's disdain for Steve's publicizing of hunting. But some of the comments he had in the videos on the DDD FB page seemed to directly target guys...
I worked with dr quist when he was at Iowa state (I think he’s in idaho now). Awesome summer and have a lot of respect for the biologists! I still remember the smell from boiling a frozen bone (I think an ear bone) from dogfish and scrubbing it with a toothbrush to get it ready for aging!!
I worked on a grad project with dr quist
Nice! I’ve been in the ag/food world for about 11 yrs now. I work as an advisor/consultant so we help raise money (debt and equity) and study market/investment feasibility for companies. We work primarily with first level processors but some larger...
I’m pretty sure channels on YouTube don’t have input on how many “commercials” their video receives. That’s up to the algorithms YouTube uses.
I did watch the bro/hunting public Wyoming bow elk hunt and really enjoyed the series. It was something like 12 days and each day had a ~30min video...
Not sure this is a regional deal or not but saw that Sportsmans Warehouse is listing the RAR for $329 ($100 off) for their black friday sale. This is a pretty good deal... if they have any in stock to actually sell.
Thanks, Weston. Besides ear muffs, what would you recommend for deer/elk hunting with a rifle that’s 30-06 decibel levels or greater to get below the necessary decibel range?
Weston,
Thanks for the article and taking time to respond. I grew up with a father who had severe hearing loss from his time in the Army and shooting sports. I know I’m not quite as bad as him and have worn ear muffs at the range but not during hunting.
I’m trying to understand the math you...
