I was looking at getting this jacket because I thought it was lighter than that. I think IiI will go with the Cabelas passage jacket. I like the jacket but was turned off a little because it weighs 22oz. I think for $60 on sale I will give it a try. Thanks for posting the real world weight up...
I learned my lesson last year. We were into elk everyday and I passed on spikes and cows. We never got a shot at a branch antler bull. My theory this year is I will shoot the same thing on the first day as I would on the last. So, yeah, I will not pass on a cow this year.......unless I get lucky...
Thanks guys. How quiet are they and how well do they compress compared to other jackets? I would like to get the new Kryptek jacket but the $150 I can save with the Cabelas I can put towards my Kifaru pack purchase(once I make up my mind which model I want).
I am looking for a bargain on a puffy. Cabelas good deal on these right now. I can pick one up for $52 right now. Does anyone have any experience with these or would you save your money and buy the Krytek, Kuiu, etc?
congrats. I just found this site a couple of weeks ago on a referral from Dotman. Awesome site with lots of good info and what seems like a good group of people...always civil. I have already lost several hours of my life looking at all the good info. Thanks for a gods site.
After using Under Armour the last 5 years I have decided to upgrade to merino. I hunt Sept archery in whatever state I get a tag. Do most of you go with the light for your base layer.? I sweat easily with activity but tend to get cold at night( need to upgrade my sleeping bag).
Part of the reason is the commitment it take to do a western hunt.
1. You have to be a motivated individual
2. Have a love for the mountains
3. Have the cash to buy gear, tags, fuel, etc...it's not cheap as we all now
4. Have the right gear, know what gear you need, and know how to use it

I wear the MT 50 jacket from Cabelas. I have used it on 6 hunts with no problems. Relatively quiet, kept me dry, and you can find it on sale. Use a cable as coupon with a sale price and you can get a bargain. The main reason I went with the MT50 is that it comes in tall sizes. The sleeves in...
When I carry I use a shoulder holster. I have a .44 Redhawk. It is heavy but will get the job done if ever needed. It is out of the way to draw my bow and easily accessible if needed. Sometimes I just carry my bear spray. If I was carrying anything less than a .44 with hard cast bullets in...
I have an Eberlestock J107 with the attachable camp bag. I am looking at getting a nomad with bikini frame. I was wondering if I could use the Eberlestcok bag with the Nomad. Does anyone have any idea if this would work? Also if it would work, do you know how the Eberlestock compares to the...
I carry a wyoming saw when I have the room. They are great but not exactly minimalist. They pack up nicely. I have never used the Gerber so I can't compare.
I am into retriever training but have no idea. I would ask this on retriever training.net. There are some really good trainers and some vets on their that would give you a solid answer.
Does anyone going have a Kifaru backpack? I would like to check one out and see what all the hype is about. I am thinking about upgrading my 7yo Eberlestock J107. It has been a good pack and wore well but it does wear on the shoulders with my longer torso.
