7mm Rem Mag & 140 gr Accubonds

Ya, I've been very pleased with the various Ballistic Tip bullets I've used. Decided to try the Accubonds because I anticipate a pretty high muzzle velocity from the 7mm Rem Mag and thought the Accubond should hold together better if I get a short range shot on a big mule deer, or even heavier...

7mm Rem Mag & 140 gr Accubonds

Spent part of yesterday morning putting together some 7mm Rem Mag loads to test, hopefully soon. Reloader 22 Federal 215's Winchester cases 140 grain Nosler Accubonds Looking good - soon I'll see how they shoot. Remington factory 140 gr ammo was promising.

BLM identifying lands with no public access...

Know a fellow who accessed some prime public land via helicopter. It was an expensive solution, but it worked. He had a great, and successful hunt. I applaud recent efforts to open some of those chunks of public land (not just BLM) that have been locked up, surrounded by private property.

Ha! You're testing my memory... Loaded those cartridges nearly 20 years ago... I think it may have been. It was a max level load for sure and shot well, producing impressive velocity. Performed well on elk too. And, ya, it was probably a compressed load. H870 is an old powder, no longer in...

329PD reloading recipes

For years, decades, I've been loading a 250 grain cast lead semi-wadcutter over 9 grains of Unique as my standard practice load for the 44 mag. It's pretty easy to shoot, and seems to have never caused any issues with my various 44 revolvers. Depending on barrel length, it's good for around...

Pulling Bullets

Was busy for a bit this morning pulling bullets from old 7mm Rem Mag ammo that won't fit my current rifle. I've been using the RCBS collet style bullet puller. It's easy to use, quiet and effective. No marred bullets today! Some of this ammo was loaded nearly 20 years ago, other only about 10...

Bullet help for alaska

I used the 200 gr Nosler Partition from my 30-06 for grizzly, it worked well. The opportunity came for a shot at a 75 pound wolf, and again, the 200 gr Partition worked well. It expanded readily on the light wolf, and penetrated deep on the big bear. Guy

Crazy bear hunting idea....

I was amazed how quickly a bear came to a mouth-blown fawn in distress call. BTW, it came in with quite an attitude! Way different than a bear just cruising around, eating berries & such. Guy

300WSM Starting Point

H4350 proved to be an excellent choice for the 300 WSM when I was using one. However, since you're using the Barnes bullet, I'd recommend using their load manual for guidance. Looks like there are several powder choices which will get you into the 3000 - 3100+ fps range, which is plenty...

Moving to Washington or Oregon From Michigan. Best Hunting and Fishing Communities?

I'd say Oregon is better for most hunting. Fishing? Both states are good, despite problems with steelhead & salmon returns in recent years. Don't overlook the bear hunting. At least 30,000 black bear in Washington, am sure Oregon has a lot too. No dogs or bait in Washington, but good bear...
