Why is the .270 Winchester so under loaded?

Those are over max. That 165 grain load is faster than my 7mag pushes a 162 or 168 with a 24” tube. The .270 isn’t magical lol.

Why is the .270 Winchester so under loaded?

Probably some truth in this. However, the .280 is known to be under loaded by the factories due to the early pumps and semi auto’s that handcuffed the cartridge from the start. I always said if Remington hadn’t borked the release of the .280 there may not have been the 7 mag.

Why is the .270 Winchester so under loaded?

I can get 2875-3000 fps with 140-154 grain pills in my .280, a 22” Ruger M77 MKII, so 2900 should be pretty doable in a .270 I’d think. Probably use the same powders as well, 4350, 4831, Re19, Re22, anything in that burn range.

What did you do in the reloading room today?

After having my reloading equipment in the garage at this house for 17 years, I’m finally able to set up a bench indoors. As a result, I’m moving equipment in and getting it cleaned up. As I moved some stuff in, I found a box I didn’t remember. Inside was both loose bagged brass in several of...

Has anyone done a drop test on Leupold Vx5hd?

I didn’t refer to anyone specifically. Odd you felt slighted. No one mentioned Nightforce in this thread until you. Use whatever you want, I don’t care. The premise of my first post still stands lol.

    Rotating Case while Seating Bullets?

I’ve always done it with standard seating dies. I never measured runout so there’s no statistical validity to me, but as the OP said, it’s free. I’ve replaced several of my seating dies with Forster seating dies and don’t bother doing it with those, as it’s simply a much better design.

Has anyone done a drop test on Leupold Vx5hd?

Wow. There’s a whole lot of butthurt in this thread. If you don’t like or agree with Form’s testing, ignore it. No one is forcing anything on you. Buck the F up little campers. Jesus.

    Does brass matter?

Yes it matters in my experience, as far as consistency and longevity. Does it matter “enough” on my hunting rifles? Not for me. I chased that rabbit for years and out of factory and semi custom guns, the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. With that said, I generally use Norma as my base, with some...

    Remington Primers

I’ve used more Remingtons than any other primer except Federal. They‘ve always worked well for me.

Light weight scope that will except a custom turret

The Credo vs the NF SHV line I don’t see any differences in glass, with MY eyes. Others may have a different idea with their eyes.

Light weight scope that will except a custom turret

Excellent glass, built stout with an excellent erector system to allow consistent, repeated dialing is tough to put in a lightweight package. A NF 2-10 SHV is around that, the 4-14 a couple ounces more. Same for a Trijicon Credo or Tenmile. After those, pickings get slim.

Yep, weight’s not bad for what it is. Wonder how good the glass is.

    I neck size brass.😂

I would never carry even the lightest rifle I own by the scope suitcase style.😳

    interesting bullet test(s)

I’d LOVE to get my hands on some TA’s to load. I tried them in factors ammo with pretty marginal accuracy, but I think the design is awesome. They weren’t awful, so I think a different powder/seating depth might work really well for me. My theory was they didn’t have enough jump in the factory...

Need thought on a load development issue pls

I do hope you mean .3 to .5 increments. Otherwise shit‘s gonna get real and real fast lol.

Under $700 optic for a beginner to grow with

The Trijicon Huron is a pretty good value with the straight duplex reticle. You should be able to find a 3-9 or 2-10 Trijicon Credo in that price range as well. Another that won’t necessarily get a lot of love here is the Athlon Ares BTR 2.5-15x50, which has really nice glass and a lot of value...

Which full length resizer die to get?

First thing is to send that die back to Hornady. For the most part, I lean toward Redding FL dies with carbide expander balls. That has been my setup for a long time. As I move forward, I’ve started to change my setups. I have traditionally bought Redding standard three die sets, with a few...
