Does anyone use a collapsible water bucket on their backcountry trips? Was thinking it would make pumping water from ponds/streams a little easier. Fill up the bucket, let water settle, then pump. This way I dont have to worry about sinking in the mud or drapping stuff in the water.

Stinky,
With the Big Agnes bags you dont have to worry about rolling off the pad. Since the pad fits into the sleeve on the bottom of the bag, the pad moves with you/bag. So instead of you/bag ending up on the downhill side of your tent and the pad on the uphill - both you/bag and the pad...
I'm 6' 235# and use either a Western Mountaineering Badger down bag or a Big Agnes Encampment bag with a neo air pad. Im a side sleeper and really toss and turn, so I do the tylenol PM trick and it helps a bit. This year I am going to pack in a ZLite short pad as well and see if that helps...
I'd prefer to hunt backcountry with 1 or 2 friends. You can still hunt alone during the day (or pair up if calling is working), but you have a group to hang with in the evenings, plus there is help for the pack out or in the case of an emergency.
Unfortunatly I'm hunting solo this season...
Broken Arrow - I had a 150 qt cooler full of frozen milk jugs/2 liter pop bottles last in my truck in the sun for 6 days with minimal melting - Outside temps got into the 80's during the day. My truck has a topper on it, but I also covered the cooler with a old sleeping bag.
How to get that...
The large TAG bags (44" X 24") are 3.4 oz each. Caribou bags medium (48" X 28") are a little heavier, BUT I carry 2 of the medium and 3 and the total weight is about the same.
TAGs = 16.8oz
Caribou = 19.2oz
My kill kit all fits in a mesh bag that I stick in the bottom of my pack.
5 Caribou Gear bags
1 large Contractor bag
Gerber LST knife
Tyvec ground cloth 4'x4'
stubby pen (to fill out your tag)
My pack already has the other standard items (primary knife. gerber saw, paracord, marking tape)
Mine should be on the way shortly.
Jason posted on the KUIU site that the minimums for printing the vias camo is really high and the first run of gaiters wasn't large enought to make the minimum.
That little gerber sliding saw is only 3.5 ounces and packs pretty compact. The one I have came with the wood blade, but last summer I bought a replacement bone blade (another 1.75 ounces) and carry both with me. They work great.
I can't run at all - Kills the knees. Also Hiking was hurting them real bad last year, but started taking Glucosamine and Fish Oil daily - helps with the aches and pains.
I Hike with a pack, stairs at work, and Mountain Bike. I try to take a 4 mile hike with a 50# pack 4 nights a week and...
Pretty much the same as everyone else... If the weather is forecasting warmer temps, I will make up soem cereal bags with shredded wheat or some other cereal and powdered milk for breakfast instead of oatmeal - makes for a nice quick breakfast - no heating water needed.
I like the Tuna...
I have the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 2 - Used it last year archery season and it was perfect for me, my backpack and my bow. Had rain lots of days/nights and no problems keeping dry.
For later in the fall Rifle trips I have a REI Cirque ASL 2. That is just under 5#, but will handle the snow a lot...
I've been looking at the Mountain Lights also Just havent pulled the triger. How do they compare to the Alaska GTX (My current pair). I really like the Alaskans, but they are quite heavy and hot during september.
